How We Are Going To Do This.
« on: October 26, 2009, 11:04:47 AM »
Basically I'm going to break up my Gen40K Topic's post and explain how I think we should go about this:

Quote
WORLD: Relatively new agri-world, 10 Internal Guard Regiments, one local Imperial Guard Regiment lying just outisde the system.
Is 10 Internal Guard Regiments enough? For this we need input from an Imperial fluff specialist to check the realism of the forces there and some artists to draw some scenic sketches

Quote
BEGINNING:
  • Ork Rok lands
  • and the Internal Guard (PDF) rush to cordon them in around the drop zone.
  • The orks break out and
  • start adapting to fighting withing the cold woods in the area.
  • The Internal Guard begin urgent conscription, and
  • call for the Tithe Guard hanging around off-world.  [/l][/l]
This is going to be a fast-paced selection of scenes (like I have bullet-pointed above). Once this has been checked for Canon balance I can whip up a storyboard and different people can choose to write the "script" for each "scene"

Quote
CHARACTER: A conscript, bloke in his 30s who has to leave his girlfriend/wife for the Conscription
One person can write his background and choose when to kill him (or not), simple. Hopefully.

Quote
CHARACTER: Squad of Internal Guard
The Inquisitor is revealed as wanting to investigate strange readings/the artefact *GAP*
For this we need someone who knows enough about the way the higher levels work to check whether this is Canonically feasible if we do it right, then I can sketch a stroyboard and then another (maybe that same person) can write out the dialogue.

Quote
MIDDLE: The Tithe Guard entering the atmosphere come into clashes with a lurking Tau fleet, there are large fights as Barracudas and Tiger Sharks intercept the transports
An aerial scene, I think, would be seriously cool. I'm pretty sure Viken already has some models lying around, so we can just decide how long we want the scene to be and leave it to a scene-writer and the animators...

Quote
CHARACTER: Someone/peoples in the Tithe Guard *GAP*
If anyone wants to write up a squad or even a platoon they are very welcome to, if a few of you want to get together for it feel free, just have them in the 4th Company, 3rd Regiment or something (and not a group of super-veterans)

Quote
MIDDLE: A coincidence has the Tau and Orks both ambush the impressive 8 Internal Regiments closing in on the Ork zone, the Tau are declared a big enemy. A Fio requests a retinue of Shas to investigate the same thing as the Inquisitor is.
I'll sketch a storyboard and then we can ask the more canonically educated to go over this before we get furthur... but the sight of thousands and thousands of little dots (i.e., internal guardsmen) marching in a valley...

Quote
BATTLE: Internal Guard are ambushed
The Fio'el and his retinue (I'm thinking Pathfinders and Stealthsuits) arrive in the artefact site shortly before the Inquisitor/Retinue
As above in terms of storyboard & review,

Quote
BATTLE: Orks and Internal Guard outside, this is a massive battle with 5 PDF Regiments forming the front lines in open ground. Approximately 3 regiments make into the forests to outflank the orks but are met by the Warboss's and his guards. Tau aircraft and Tithe Guard Reinforcements struggle against each other in the sky.
This is where our platoon-scale conflicts have gone to a massive ambush and now escalate to an epic battle... again only little dots and flashes of fire and stuff are really required, not actual "people" as such (although we can have snippets of cloe combat, or a squadron of tanks under attack, and things like that). So again I'll sketch a "rough" storyboard, we'll review it and then everyone can contribute "snippets", little 30-90second scenes all part of the greater battle...

Quote
END: The Inquisitor and Tau meet somehow around the artefact *GAP* NOT face to face, that's too cliched. The Tau Fio makes off with the artefact and the Inquisitor is left to deal with the Necrons, OR the other way round...
This is where our Canon experts will need to lend a hand.

I have already written some fluff on a Guardsman that becomes a Commissar, I was thinking that could be edited to fit?

When will we voice actors know what we're going to be saying, and what kind of voices we'll be doing?

Also, how many different voices will we most likely need? We'll probably also need some generic (just our normal voices) voices for backround speech.

Overall Story:
Refine Idea -> Canon Check -> Storyboard.

Characters:
Submission -> Review -> Storyboard -> CGI Modelling.

Scene:
Have overall story "done" -> Storyboard -> Script writing -> Submit painted backdrops ->  Animate CGI Character Models -> Record voices to finished main character "speaking" animations -> Model and animate and voice background characters.

So before everything else we get our senior folks to check over the overall story, I sketch it out, then people script-write for their chosen characters and chosen scenes, the CGI model and animate the main characters and we voice them, then the same for background characters in each scene.

And I thought of an awesome ending for it, which I'll draw out and you can tell me is awesome/klkn, depending on whether it is awesome or klkn.

I have already written some fluff on a Guardsman that becomes a Commissar, I was thinking that could be edited to fit?
Just pop it in the main project board (not a sub-board) :)

Vintage Miniature [VOTING]

Listen up no-beards, and you might learn a thing or two about how things were done in the olden days! Minis wern't always these multi-part, poseable, convertable, dynamic works of 30mm art that we have nowadays y'know.

Hell, back in the old days, minis were true lumps of lead! And the only way to convert your lump of lead, was with a hacksaw, stanley knife and several bleeding fingers!
Sure they didnt have the detail of todays minis, and they were limited to what could be easily cast... but they sure as hell had character!

Its great to see some of the 2S long-beards have come out for this contest, showing a great blast from the past of miniature goodness.
Feast your eyes on these vintage gems, and pick your 2 faves ;)

Unofficial kudos to anyone who can say which is the oldest mini and the release dates :P

I shouldn't be giving too much away by admitting that I didn't have any flesh colours to paint my model with, so what flesh exists is painted in a custom-mixed skin tone. :P

Considering a few of them have alternative flesh type colour palletes, that could be most of the entries :)

EDIT: Wow, i didnt expect to win this one!  Looks like a lot of people liked my Shokk Attack Mek :)

Congrats to winners (who I managed to pick  ;D )
Everything was very good, probably for the best I didn't enter in time, you all would have trounced me.

Awesome. Now the americans (and any british troops with translator chips) can fire at +1 BS!!!
