Dont have Codex right now, but isnt it only SHIELD drones that have the variable toughness? Markers are just a flat 3 arent they?

Yes, but if you run a full squad of crisis suits you can run six drones. If you only run four markers and two shields, then you have five models with toughness 4 (and a 3+ save) and four with toughness 3, making the majority T4. Ynou're right, I probably should have pointed out that detail. Actually, since shield drones also get the armor save of their controlling model, it might be worth adding a shas'vre with iridium armor and letting him control the shield drones. That way you'd have three models with a 2+ (two of them with 4+ invulnerable also) and two with a 3+ before you have to start allocating wounds to the markers. The problem is that a squad like that can easily top 300 points and still only be leadership 8, vulnerable to assaults, partially vulnerable to Instant Death, and only toughness 4. You could make them a command squad for leadership 9 or 10, but that will make the cost even worse.
Cured of what I'm suffering from, but suffering from the cure.

Alot of the units I've read about other than pathfinders and skyrays are all networked makerlights meaning only the unit controlling the drone get to use the markerlights? Right?

Actually, its that the unit controlling them "can" use it, not "must" use it. Normal markerlights cannot be used by the unit that fired them, but networked markerlights can be, but don't have to.

Yes. Markerlights can ALWAYS be used for another unit, even if they are networked. If they are NOT networked, they can ONLY be used by other units.
