Space Wolf Landraider
« on: November 08, 2009, 04:27:31 PM »
Hey here is some pics of my Space Wolf Landraider that I am working on. It still has a long way to go but you get the idea. I am a little unhappy with the side that has some weathering. I used some Delvin Mud, but now it looks too dirty. I guess I might touch it up and refresh the paint and try it again. I have never weather a vehicle before, so I guess it is my fault. Anyways let me know what you think!

Nice job on the freehand :). You've obviously got some skills. However, I imagine Space Wolf iconography to me much more... well... manly. An overflowing mug of mead or a barbaric warrior cleaving his enemy's head in two. That being said, the actual execution of your ideas is fantastic.

Don't worry there will be some murals like that eventually...I already have a pair of bear mug bits that I am going to put in the tank commander's hands.

This iconography is sort of a tribute to World War bombers, with the pinup girls. These girls here are supposed to be Valkyries, something that is lacking in the space wolf department. I have wanted to make actually Valkyrie models too. I figured maybe counts as Skyclaws?  ;)

Its okay.

I cant say i like it because it's just not to my type i guess.

Should be bordered somehow.

And the tank looks sloppy to me.'
The recesses are painted, so its flat.

But ill keep my judgements until i see the finale.

Plus this is my first vehicle I have ever painted.

Thanks for the comments. I guess.

I did say ill keep my judgements until when i see the finale, its just what i think now.

But i think the freehand valkyries should be like in the doors or a section of the armour, not over half the armour.

But im looking forward to seeing more.

Something else i noticed, the black outlines on the sword and hat of the chick need to be dulled down, they stand out ;)

Ok thanks. :)

I will tone some of that down on the outlines and maybe put a boarder around it. I keep that in mind for my next one as well. Any tips on the weathering? I really didn't like how dirty the delvin mud made it.

Personally i dont like the new washes. i prefer to water my paints down further and paint directly into recesses.

I have never done a tank myself yet, but i do know tamiya makes excellent weathering kits.

They are powders you brush on, then once you have brushed them on you use purity seal, so basically finish the painting of the tank and highlighting and shading then use tamiya. Or the new forgeworld powders look good even too.

Could chip the paint and paint black with silver edges, or silver chips, etc.

I really don't like the washes so far either. I have a chestnut, brown, and black inks, which seem to work 100% better. I think I may go back to using those. I don't have much of them left though. Also I will look into getting the weathering powders. I saw some by forgeworld that look really nice. Thanks for the advice!

The one sitting under the tree just seems out of place.  A beautiful scene of a woman sitting rather serenly under a tree staring out to see on the side of the biggest most bad dyi vehicle of death in the space wolves arsenal?  She should be chopin orks up or something and drinking there blood.

I'm liking the shields on the front sides though.  Where did those come from?

Yeah I am totally not liking that girl either. she started out better, but too much color and it is out of place. I might paint over her and make something like the other one. As for the other bits, well there are a lot of them on there. The shields you referred too, the skulls on those little missle launchers, the wolf with the knife, and a lot more that are hard to see all came from the Space wolves troop set.
