psycic powers

i just wanna know whether people usually give theire termies holocaust, so i can gather views and hopefully make some changes to my lists accordingly. :)

also i believe it says in the dh codex that in the case of a gk squad using psycic powers then the power should radiate from the brother captain or justicar, does that mean that normal gk squads can have powers or am i just being ignorant and missing a blatant part of the codex, please help. :-'

thanks

normal gk squads cant have holocaust, only term squads and term retinues. the pie plate is placed adjacent to the brother cap or grandmaster, hence focused on them.

as for the first question, i consider holocaust as a risky power to give to ur terminators, because if the squad purchases it, then the entire squad is needed to focus the power, thus the entire squad suffers from perils of the warp if the dice dont agree with you. where as if only ur  gk hero has it, then he is the only one channeling hte ability so a peril of the warp would only affect that one model.

ive taken 1 holocaust for brother cap 1 holocaust for the retinue before, 2 pie plates in a assault phase is quite a sight but its not too practical. the main purpose of this power is to help the terms win assaults and thin out swarming enemies, they generally dont have too much problem mulching stuff up anyway so 1 holocaust template is usually enoug.

Since all termie squads have to have a brother captain just have the brother captain buy it.

I wouldn't take holocaust for a terminator squad, because...
Way too risky for a squad of that power, although there big and strong and have a awesome save, they only have one wound not enough effeciveness for that sort of risk.

Most players I've seen, take holocaust on their terminators virtually every time, and they always take it on the Brother-captain, not just on the squad. The reason is because yes, it is a risk, but it's also a chance to beef up a combat result (remember, it adds to combat results!) and it's a huge template which only has to touch it's source, not center on it. Basically, it's a way of taking a poor combat phase and adding a huge chunk of extra wounds to the fight.

For example, 5 Terminators vs. 20 Gaunts is a good fight, which you could lose. But if you average out well in combat and then blast a good holocaust near by, you can claim the life of several more gaunts that weren't even attacking yet. That means you killed more, won combat probably and denied more attacks that would happen later. It's well worth it many cases.

Losing some of your own guys is a tough one, but generally it's worth it. It's all about risking it and coming out on top, but generally it's always helpful as long as you're using it. If you don't use it, of course it's not worth while :)

Cheers!

the gods of the dice have cursed me and my termie saves so i dont think imgonna take holocaust as they die easily enough anyway without me helping them into the grave. thanks for the advice everyone! :)
