Coloured Light Tutorial
« on: July 07, 2010, 04:34:02 AM »
This is my first try at a tutorial of any sort, so please bear with me.

I have developed a method for paining coloured lights, such  as head lights, tail lights, and the pot lights found on the Skyshield Landing pad in my pictures.  I think it looks quite good.  It may not be Golden Daemon standard, but it is quick and easy, witch does give it some merit.

I will be using red lights for my example.  To paint red lights, you will need:

-Mechrite Red
-Blood Red
-Mithril Silver
-Red Ink (I suppose Baal Red would be just as good)
-Brazen Brass (or whatever colour you like for the trim around the light)

All paint should be thinned, or you will fill in the detail.

step #1 base coat Mechrite Red

step #2 mix appx. 3:1 mithril silver and blood red.  This makes a rosy pink/silver colour.  Thin coat for this.

step #3 glaze of red ink.  You should be quite liberal with this.  I say glaze not wash.  It will appear as a nice shinny cherry red.

step #4 brazen brass (or whatever) on the trim and wire guards.

There it is quick and easy.  There are allot of these lights on the Landing Pad, so a simple method is quite a time saver.

Here's the finished piece.

"Hello, heretics, look at your false gods, now back to me, now back at your false gods, now back to me. Sadly, you aren't me, but if you stopped performing unholy rituals of blood and repented to the divinely benevolent light of the Emperor, you could be purified in death. Look down, back up, where are you? You're impaled on the chainsword of the man you could find eternal peace from. What's in your hand, back at me. I have it, it's your black, beating heart. Look again, your heart has been purified in flame. Anything is possible when you open your heart to the Emperor and accept his judgement. I'm on a space hulk."

Not only a nifty tutorial, but a nice piece you created there. Very smooth, even, realistic paint job, and the lights at that nice little touch.
