That's not Robute Guilliman, that's Cato Sicarius in disguise! :P
Prepare for a "And they shall know no defeat" special rule that automatically gives them victory/kill points so as not to lose the game outright. ::)

I'm assuming that this is gonna be another triumvurate like the other ones, possibly a 'Triumvurate of the Adeptus Astartes' or some such schtick. If so, we'll probably get to use these characters in any Imperial army, which will be... Interesting.
My Imperial Guard have always wanted a Primarch as their HQ. :P Given than Chapter Master Dante is a Lord of War, Guilliman really ought to be as well.

So the Primarchs are no longer Forgeworld only - Ultramarines Primarch Roboute Guilliman is being released in plastic.

IMO the proportions of the Guilliman miniature don't look quite right. He could also be a tad more dynamic in pose. However, I'll look into picking one up as part of my Ultramarines elite units collection.

There's also another couple of miniatures - Fallen Angel Cypher and Grand Master Voldus.

I've got to say the Avatar is my least favourite of the new miniatures.

IMO it just looks a bit tacky having those swirly bits. (I kind of have a similar problem with Nagash).

I hope we don't loose Slaanesh from the game though. Plus didn't the 4th edition Eldar book have quite a nice segment about the end of Slaanesh?

My progress on the second company has been somewhat minimal. However, I completed the assembly, painting, and basing of the librarian and I have also done the cleanup and assembly of part of an honour guard squad. And I have also obtained another four space marines with bolters (one was a paint strip of an old one and three are from a 3 smurf sprue).

However, my miniature time is moving towards Tyranids for now. I picked up the current codex (the limited edition version no less) as well as a Tervigon Brood Progenitor box. I'm trialling paint schemes on half a dozen gaunts to get an idea for what will work best. If I find a scheme I like then I'll be building up a core army by expanding up to 30 termagants and adding a Start Nids box - a flyrant, and 10 gargoyles. I don't see the need for the warriors so they'll probably stay on their sprue.

It's an excellent and well-recieved game, though I have played it to death a bit. I'll probably go back to it at some point (ie. if they release Skaven or Lizardmen as playable races in the Campaign)!
If there were a Stegadon I might just be tempted. :P

If the price lowers I might pick up a copy. Though I still haven't played much Dawn of War II (at least I finished Space Marine). Speaking of Dawn of War, DoW III ought to be coming out this year. :)

I've been thinking about having a dedicated combat patrol army for a while now and one of my favourite choices for this is Imperial Guard.

Chimera chassis vehicles and sentinels are available for us in combat patrol, as are the staple of either platoons or veterans (or even penal legions if you are that way inclined).

I've been thinking of a setup along the lines of the following. NB: If these points are off it's because I'm doing them from memory.

Platoon Command Squad - autocannon, vox-caster - 45 points
Shock Troops - autocannon, vox-caster - 65 points
Shock Troops - autocannon, vox-caster - 65 points
Shock Troops - autocannon, grenade launcher - 65 points
Sentinel - armoured - 40 points
Chimera - hull heavy bolter - 55 points
Chimera - pintle heavy stubber - hull heavy bolter - 65 points

Every unit has a weapon with reasonable firepower: the troops provide 4 autocannons; the sentinel and chimeras a triad of multi-lasers; a couple of hull mounted heavy bolters; a heavy stubber; and a grenade launcher. Then there're also 23 lasguns.

You can either keep the shock troops out in the open, preferably behind cover, or can have some of them take up residence in a chimera. Whilst hiding they can still fire their autocannon - this means the chimera would have quite a few shots that can have a go at hurting any unit allowed in combat patrol, and quite a few shots that are great against anything less than MEQ.

The sentinel is mostly there to use up extra points. You may think it better to replace it and the heavy stubber with another shock troop squad. If you then also dropped the grenade launcher on one of the other shock troops squads and one of the vox casters then you can get an autocannon:

Platoon Command Squad - autocannon, vox-caster - 45 points
Shock Troops - autocannon, vox-caster - 65 points
Shock Troops - autocannon - 60 points
Shock Troops - autocannon - 60 points
Shock Troops - autocannon - 60 points
Chimera - hull heavy bolter, turret multilaser - 55 points
Chimera - hull heavy bolter, turret multilaser - 55 points

This provides quite a few shots that can take out any enemy vehicle (max combined armour is 33 in combat patrol, as per 4th ed rule book) and can wound any enemy model.

Again it's a bit lacking against MEQ but that's why you have so many men. If you are facing MEQ then the tactic becomes order a blob squad to First Rank Fire! Second Rank Fire!.

Another alternative approach is to take the PCS and two shock troops w/ AC & Vox and then go for a couple of armoured sentinels and then add a unit with plasma weapons - perhaps a plasma veteran squad (on foot, or sell a sentinel to buy a chimera transport) or even some rough riders (can rapidly move into place and fire the high strength/low AP plasma weapons at the target).

C&C welcome.

Your name does ring a bell. Though it was quite a while ago (as in we must have been here for 6 years or so now!).

Welcome back though.

The RP board could do with some love once again. It used to be rather popular on 2S.

What's the general consensus on the game? Is it any good?

Having said that, it would be nice to be able to check system requirements first so that I don't end up in the same position I was with Rome II, having the game for over a year before I could actually play it. :P
I've upgraded on three occasions for that reason IIRC. ;D With a GTX 970 it looks like I should have a few more years before there are games I can't play at all.

It turns out we still have Tapatalk installed so you might be able to run the Tapatalk app - it's not a perfect experience but it should allow you to do basic browsing of the forum easily (and you receive push notifications for things like personal messages IIRC).

The next version of SMF will have a responsive default theme, so that ought to solve the problem.

Oh I do hope it's better than when I last looked at it...

I've never had much of a problem myself on small display devices but it's rare I use a display below 8" so may not notice it so readily.

I'll have a look into responsive curve again. I think I didn't get along with it last time I tried to use it so I'll have to give it a good check before I consider installing it.

I'm doing a bit of a clearout and have quite a few miniatures that I could do with moving on (to make room for different miniatures).

I'm not including a comprehensive list with images & equipment of what there is because it'd take quite a while to count every last model so I am including an approximate list - if there's anything that sounds interesting just shout out and I'll get more information/photos of the item(s) in question.

  • Most of two sets of Space Hulk Stealers (removed from sprue, not glued)
  • 20 classic plastic grots
  • 2 plastic killa kans (one assembled except for ranged weapon, other on sprue. Grot launcher not included)
  • 5 assembled stormboyz
  • 6+ Eldar Rangers (5 metal, painted; 1 finecast, unpainted)
  • 5 painted dire avengers
  • 6 fire dragons (glued except for Exarch)
  • Finecast Avatar (glued, no sword end or finger on other hand, got a little paint on it)
  • 6 swooping hawks (finecast, most broken off of base)
  • 2 Eldar bikes, no pilot
  • 3 falcon grav tanks with bright lance and pulse laser and underslung shuriken cannon, painted. Canopes glued. The pointy bits on the back of the turret are both missing on one model and one is missing on a 2nd model.
  • Eldar heavy support weapon platform
  • 2 Eldar guardian weapon platforms
  • Ork Trukk
  • War Walker, quite fragile assembly
  • Numerous bolter marines (name the number you're interested in and I'll try and find that many)
  • 20 night gobbos w/ bows
  • 35 or so night gobbows w/spears
  • ~8 goblin spiders
  • 10 dire wolves, one or two without base
  • Painted Goblin troll (starter set one)
  • Spear chukka
  • Night goblin slingshot type thrower (throws goblins with wings)
  • 15 Chaos Knights
  • 23 Warriors of Chaos
  • 10 Marauder Horsemen
  • 1 Nurgle Sorcerer
  • 10 plagubearers (metal)
  • 20 bloodletters (half on round bases)
  • Khorne Lord on Jugger (metal)
  • Orc Boar chariot (one orc with spear onboard)
  • Assorted metal models (quite a supply - no idea what they are)
  • Assorted plastic models (as above)
All items shipping from the UK by Royal Mail or Parcelforce. Any requests for photos before the 15th will be sorted quickly - after that they may take a while as I'm away for a couple of months. Dispatch will still be possible on items that have already had photos requested (I'll make sure they're bagged up and I'll get family to send them).

Payment would be via Paypal, cheque (dispatch after clearance in case of cheque) or UK postal order.

No reasonable offers refused.

We all know anniversaries have a very good use: making money. So here we have a new space marine miniature to buy to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Games Workshop Space Marine.

I doubt it'll be as popular as the 25th anniversary figure - at least it came with a scenic base and didn't have a beak helmet.

GW stores are offering a variety of in store events on the 16th and 17th of this month. Apparently there may actually be the odd freebie but take that with a pinch of salt.

So it's looking like I'm buying up part of another space marine company before I've finished with buying the 2nd company. I already have 30 tactical marines ready for the next battle company - perhaps they will end up as Sternguard (very bland looking but much cheaper than 'genuine' Sternguard), as members of another battle company, or may end up in a reserve company (e.g. in a tactical reserve company or as the bolter guys in the devastator company).

I've been trying out methods of paint stripping - I've decided to finish stripping down some of my old metal models: Calgar in artificer armour; Techmarine without harness, apothecary, standard bearer. I've tried thinners, ispopropynol and acetone in the past with mixed success. I've now got them soaking in Dettol (disinfectant) and it seems to be working fairly well - most of the paint off of flat surfaces was scrubbed off of Calgar quite easily after a few hours soak. In the morning I'll find out if it's worked well enough to strip the paint down to metal/cellulose spray layer (if the models even used it).

I've also got a 7th edition Space Marine codex on order - a friend has given me a figure of a little over 3000 points so far for my army and my old BA codex brings in 500 extra in special characters. Added to around 4k of IG and I'm well on my way to 10k in Imperial forces. :)

It's been a while...

I've been busy procuring the miniatures needed for the Ultramarines 2nd Company. So far I have the following (roughly):
  • 60 80 90 tactical marines
  • 20 devastators
  • Librarian on foot
  • Assault cannon & CCW dread

I also have the following that might be able to be reclaimed (they're in BA scheme at the moment and might be a pain to change over).
  • Rhino
  • Dread from AoBR
  • 5 10 assault marines

Models I definitely still need:
  • 15 10 Assault Marines
  • 5 command marines
  • Sicarius
  • Chaplain (probably with jump pack)

I'm working on the librarian until I manage to obtain some Macragge Blue spray (none available localy and it's quite expensive to ship - may have to wait until I'm next passing a GW store) - I don't fancy painting the blue basecoat by hand.

The librarian has been receiving edge highlights - my normal troops won't be having these as they're quite time consuming. They'll be being drybrushed I'd think.

EDIT: Just updated to include an extra 20 tactical marines I've just purchased off of eBay.
EDIT 2: And now updated to include a further 10 tactical marines and 5 assault marines.
