News, Rumours and Trading / Re: New Eldar Stuff (PICS)

Hey guys.

I know this is News and Rumours, and that the whole point of it is to share upcoming models, but with the recent issues that Bell of Lost Souls and Faeit212 had recently for doing the same thing I've had to delete the posts with pictures from an upcoming White Dwarf, because I sure as heck don't want the Banhammer of GW coming down on us here at 2S.

I really am sorry about this.

It's all sorted now.  Thanks, Mabbz.  Thanks, Sorck.

Rep, for a glorious end to Vasily's adventures (and possibly also because he ended up with Temperance   ;) ).

Sorted.  Also added the ability to change votes.

The obvious choice, if you're going to go armour-less, is Monk/something so you can use your Wisdom as an AC bonus.  The something should probably have a primary BAB (so it goes up by 1 every level) such as Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, or Paladin.  The only issue is that carrying a Shield negates the AC bonus, so you'd probably have to do without (or, have a shield-shaped weapon instead).

I don't know all that much about 300, so I can't really give you many more suggestions than that at this point.

At this point I play far too many decks for my own good.  My three years' worth of pent-up hoarding (normally given an outlet with my Warhammer gaming) has expressed itself in Magic.

I currently play:

- A Blue counterspell deck,
- A Blue mill deck,
- A Blue/Red Izzet deck (having lots of fun with Epic Experiment),
- A Blue/Black Zombie deck (using lots of stuff from Innistrad block to have fun with Graveyards),
- A Black/Red Vampire deck (that combines lifegain and Underworld Connections to get lots of draws),
- A White/Black deck built around creating lots of token Humans and sacrificing them to numerous different effects,
- A Blue combo deck built around Mirror-Mad Phantasm to mill myself so I can win via Laboratory Maniac,
- An EDH deck built around Braids, Conjurer Adept to drop lots of expensive stuff into play for free,
- A pauper EDH deck with Garruk's Packleader as the Commander which ramps quickly into Common fatties,
- Another pauper EDH deck with Guttersnipe as the Commander to burn everyone each time I cast any Instant or Sorcery.

Like I said...  too many decks...

I've also purchased a few older things and have a near-complete collection of the Planechase planes.  It's fun in multi-player games   ;D

To be honest, Magic is one of the reasons I've not been around here much recently (seeing as it's hard to keep up my interest in Warhammer when I live in a country where the closest GW is a good 100 km away and none of my friends are interested in it).  Since M13 came out my local gaming group and I have been buying a couple of boxes with each set and drafting them, as well as making constructed decks from whatever we've drafted.  It's all good fun.

I loved Return to Ravnica and am very much looking forward to Gatecrash.  The cards currently being spoiled every day look like a lot of fun and we're all very much looking forward to the release of Gatecrash and drafting it (not to mention making constructed decks afterwards; I've got a Standard Blue Mill deck that's aching for some Dimir support).

As for Guilds, I'm probably going to be running Dimir in constructed after Gatecrash comes down, perhaps with a little (non-Green) Simic in my other Blue decks, and trying to draft at least one of each of the others (Boros, Orzhov, Simic, and Gruul) in the 6 drafts that my friends and I are planning.

Gatecrash also represents a little experiment for me, as I've gone ahead and pre-ordered a full playset of every common and uncommon from the set; I've not done this in the past but I've ended up scrambling for extra commons and uncommons to make up my decks (for example, at this point I only own a single Judge's Familiar from RtR, which really sucks).  So, I'm seeing if having a full C/UC playset will help me out in that respect.

That is a utterly shameless rip-off of Super Dungeon Explore.

Meh.  I've never played SDE.  I backed that because of the nostalgia value of the old DnD cartoon  :D

News, Rumours and Trading / Re: Maelstrom Games declares bankruptcy!
« on: November 13, 2012, 03:17:05 AM »
It's my understanding that Maelstrom have, over a period of time, run up a large amount of debts to its suppliers, including Simple Miniature Games.  Wayland, upon seeing this occur, decided that if Maelstrom continued to do so, it would fold and in all likelihood bring down a number of suppliers too due to the debts owed.  Since our hobby is relatively small and there aren't too many suppliers, this would hit EVERYONE hard; consumers, retailers, and manufacturers.  They attempted to buy out Maelstrom a couple of times but were rebuffed, so eventually bought the debt that Maelstrom owed to Simple Miniature Games and forced Maelstrom to attempt to repay, and in the process forced them to declare bankruptcy.

On the face of it, it appears that Wayland have directly forced one of their competitors out of business, if it weren't for the fact that it appears that Maelstrom's operators knew it would fold for months in advance and have been funnelling assets into other companies, including one called "Eye of the Storm" which has an identical webstore to that of Maelstrom, also operated by the same people.

Basically, Maelstrom have been ripping people off with no intention of fulfilling orders nor paying its debts, and have started a different company to start the process over again.  Wayland have forced this to happen now as opposed to some other point in the future, when more money could have been taken by them.

To be honest, Death Cult Assassin models come with Power Swords as standard.  If you convert those models to change your in-game benefits, then I think that's a little shady.  It's one thing when you have a plastic kit with a multitude of choices to glue in the model's hand, but when you have single-piece metal models, that have never had any other weapon options before (not in game terms; in model terms), then you're really kinda gaming the system to do what you're suggesting.

Take two Power Swords and be happy with it.

Enemies of the Imperium / Re: Chaos Space Marine Errata now online
« on: October 25, 2012, 01:29:09 PM »
It's my understanding that some localised copies of the Codex have the Hellbrute's cost printed at the lower (correct) value whilst others have it printed at the higher (incorrect) value by accident.  They're errata-ing it to make it standard across all versions across the world.
