The Death of Gods and Angels, the final legendary battle of the first Horus Heresy book, Betrayal. As with the previous three legendary battles I took control of the loyalists, we agreed 3000pts (which mean that my opponent got 3750 as the traitors get an extra 25% in this one).

My army list was; a Forge Master, 2x 10 Tactical Marines (with sergeants wielding power fists), a Medusa, 4x 3 Dreadnoughts (3x t-l lascannons, 3x t-l missile launchers, 3x plasma cannons and 3x dual t-l autocannons), a Warhound Titan with a Vulcan Mega Bolter and Plasma Blastgun.

My opponent selected; Horus, Abaddon, 2x several Justaerin Terminators (one unit deep-striking with Horus, the other transported with Abaddon), 2x veteran squads (one unit in a land raider, the other in a rhino), Thunderhawk Gunship (containing Abaddon and chums).

I set up in the centre of the board, he then deployed his land raider and rhino. He automatically gets first turn unless I seize the initiative, which I do.

His Preliminary Bombardment kills two of my tactical marines.

The Seismic Cataclysm (for that is involved in this mission) succesfully swallows his Land Raider, all souls trapped inside.

I manoeuvre various things to point at his Rhino. One of my autocannon dreads opens up the can, the Medusa and Titan eat the contents.

Tabled, turn 1.

(We then went back and had a rematch where I didn't steal the initiative, it nearly ended the same way with him on only one traitor veteran at the end of turn one, but then Horus showed up and on turn five I lost my final dreadnought.)

LoTR and other GW Games / Necromunda Returns!

Games Workshop are bringing back Necromunda, with a series of new plastic gangers to boot.
The pictures so far show Houses Escher and Goliath.
No word yet on a release date.

LoTR and other GW Games / Wrath & Glory - New 40k RPG

So just a few months or so from Fantasy Flight Games losing the license, Games Workshop have sold it to Ulisses North America who are already hard at work creating Wrath & Glory.

What we know so far:
  • The Dark Imperium events of 40k 8th edition will form the central backdrop of this game
  • This system will use d6 dice pools instead of FFG's d100 rolls
  • They have hired Ross watson, lead developer of FFG's Rogue Trader and Deathwatch
  • The core rulebook will be released next year with future expansions planned

I didn't know you were a Saigo fan, but I'll keep her around too :)

Honestly, it's Rough Riders that I really like more than their character. I like that the unit is able to cause huge amounts of damage on the charge (as well they should) and having them bring down what is effectively a titan just shows that this edition is treating them right.

Well that was fun, I particularly enjoyed the imagery of O'Keefe putting an end to the Knight Errant and I'm glad that Saigo made a solid impact of her own.

I suppose the loss of blast templates makes the Earthshaker Cannons somewhat less risky as you can no longer scatter off onto your own men, they're almost like snipers against large targets now, I like to imagine the shells striking the Knights around the shoulders and exploding there, that'd explain the lack of casualties on the ground.

As always you've got some great characters and I love the writing, particularly with the Baron. I'd love to read some interaction between him and O'Keefe at some stage, given that they'll be working together now it shouldn't be too unfeasible.

Congrats on the win, I almost didn't expect you to pull this one off. I eagerly await the next one.

Well BT did mention in his first post "two dozen, 3+, T8 wounds", so slightly easier than that but not by much. Although I'm not overly fond of the idea of conscripts being able to take out titans but I can always fall back on 6th edition.

I think it's absolutely for the best that the Baron was rescued from those genestealers, the combination of these characters is a most welcome sight to behold.

How these 114 models will cope with the three Lords of War is beyond me, I haven't looked into the 8th edition rulebook but I would be astonished if a lasgun had a chance of damaging an Imperial Knight. I can see this battle hinging on a few of your units, like the Basilisks and anyone with a plasma weapon.

But we'll see, I'm certainly liking all of the fluff so far.

Jump infantry can attack flyers now? That changes things quite a lot for them.

Also do fear-causing units no longer exist because I could imagine them causing vehicles some grief.

I can confirm, I have a similar boring reason.

I'd heard about Da Jump before and like Mabbz I imagined the terrible impact it'd have on a Tau gunline.

You mentionned that your Battlewagon was able to attack in close combat, is that strictly a result of the deffrolla or can all vehicles do this? I was also wondering, given vehicles have statlines now do they have leadership values? Can a fear-causing unit scare a Land Raider off the table or do they have Fearless?

The fluff was just as great as I remember it, Lorilune is one of the top characters and I'd love to read more from her perspective, but I'll echo Mabbz once more as I too enjoy reading Lady Jenna as well.

As much as I like that you won, it'd be nice if future battles could last a little longer so we could get a bit more action and fluff, maybe spamming Da Jump at everyone should be used sparsely outside tournament play?

I must say I am loving the models in the Dark Imperium set. Whilst I may not agree with the fluff behind Primaris Astartes, I like these True-scale marines (except perhaps the Interceptors, they're a bit weird).

And those Death Guard look beautiful. I'm not so sure about the Poxwalkers but at least they seem happy which followers fo Grandfather Nurgle should be. Has the Lord of Contagion borrowed that axe design from the orks though?

Also as a commenter on facebook pointed out, Tactical Dreadnought Armour has a better armour save than actual Dreadnoughts. Which seems weird to me.

Giving all vehicles toughness and wounds completely eliminates any reason to outflank, they're now equally tough/squishy all over.

I might test it, but I'll probably end up sticking with 6th edition.

Well if the rules are indeed free then I might actually give 8th edition a try, I sat out 7th entirely so I'm open to something new, if I don't like it then I'll revert to 6th edition.
