Online Roleplaying / Shadow of the North [Recruitment]
« on: Today at 05:36:29 AM »
So I'm doing another RP, one where you will not destroy a door so easily. It will be a Fantasy world of our making named Terra (coz I think Terra is bitchin' name for a World), the geographics will be the same as our own Earth because I am lazy to do a map. The setting is pretty much ancients-medieval kind of thing i.e. no black powder weapons other than those available to the Imperial Alchemist of the Imperial University but they're pretty much limited to making bombs and grenades. Note, we have magic! But magic are only sanctioned by certain authorities and any unsanctioned magic users will be prosecuted.

Anyway, the main setting for our RP is on the edge of the Empire (Think Roman Empire), where a legion and its auxiliary regiments are occupying a newly annexed feudal city-state. You would be in the area of "France" where the land is pretty much dominated by barbarian tribes and feudal warlords, and some monsters here and there. However, being the only legion in the area, the Legate has decided to consolidate his position but with only so few men, he decided to draw the local adventurers i.e. mercenaries to carry out tasks i.e. bounties, scouting, tracking, etc. In fact, he is also willing to recruit some of the locals into a new auxiliary regiment for the local garrison.

Though the Empire is a human ethnocentric empire, it sees the practicality of incorporating the other races into its fold so long as they prove useful to the Empire. Elves, Dwarves, Gnolls, Half-Orcs and other races form auxiliary regiments which are normally attached to human legions. This is so to keep the other races in their place but also since of their unique of strengths and abilities, they're more efficient and effective in their own respective regiments. That said, the races that actually pledged their allegiance or at least bow their heads and pretend to be serious are mostly exiles or those who are dissatisfied with their own race's nation. The Empire is called the "Empire of Outcasts and Exiles" by the other races. The non-human races within the Empire are treated fairly well but they're limited when it comes to certain things like holding certain offices or trading within a certain economic zone but they're okay with it since most of them are given their own territory and the human traders come to them. However, they're obligated to raise auxiliary regiments for the Imperial legions and raise their own local garrison to defend themselves. The Imperials prize them for their strength and the low odds of the Half-Orcs ripping their arms off.

Just a few quick notes on the other races. Orcs are pretty much a raiding war-like race living to the southeast of the Empire in the deserts and plains in tribes and clans (Central Africa and Arabian Peninsular) and constantly warring with everybody. Their half-blooded descendants when they rape human females i.e. Half-Orcs are totally shun by the Orcs or made into slaves thus most opted to join the Empire and a lot of them serve in Auxiliary regiments. The Elves like in "Britain" and are pretty much a kingdom with a King or Queen from either one of the Houses within the Elven Kingdom. Though they're more tolerant of their Half-blooded cousins but they're pretty much second class citizens. The Dwarves live in the mountains and valleys to the north of the Empire, again they live in Clans and Families. They hold the biggest grudge against the Empire because they fought an earlier with the Empire over resources e.g. mines, timber, etc. But some close one eye since the trade is lucrative and those exile dwarfs still do hold some ties to their families and clans back home.

That said, we will doing the RP on the Roll20 Website and using the Tales of Blades and Heroes by Ganesha Games. Since this is a world of our own making and if you have a race or an organization to add to the world, do tell and i'll see where I can fit them in. Do note that RP may be run at unusual hours since some of us live in different time zones.

Edit: Gnolls (By Aun)

"Basically they where created as a slave and servitor race by an ancient civilisation of magic users in africa who worshiped daemon gods. For reasons unkown, the civilisation fell (slave revolt? some catastrophy? unkown, but humans with infernal characteristics are born at times, such as tails and horns, etc.)

The gnoll race basically scattered and picked up a tribal existence in the savannahs before spreading north and into forests as hunter gatherers. Being breed as a slave race, they find it easy to interact with and take orders from other races, especially humans.

They have a surprisingly strong magical and shamanic tradition though, with some ancient scrolls sometimes finding their way into their campsites. Gnolls generally worship nature spirits, but in times of war they can and call for boons from daemon gods."

Online Roleplaying / The Scales of Power: Chapter 0 - Prelude
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:55:18 AM »
OOC: While we wait for some people, let's go around the table and introduce ourselves :P

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Imperials

In a seemingly empty space within a planetary system, the laws of physics twist and bend itself as a tear of the very fabric of the universe opens up. Real Space struggles and screams as the tear begins to open wider and wider until it gave birth to a black-cloaked angel and it lead the massive and powerful Emperor-Class Battleship, The Invincible Reason. Though unlike most ships of the Imperial Navy, its appearance is almost akin to the dreaded Black Ships so very associated with the Inquisition especially with its blackened hull and the lack of external lightings. If one closely examines the ship, it does sport the symbol of the Inquisition. Following in its wake comes a flotilla of dozens other ships including the more recognisable starships of the Imperial Navy, bringing the might of the Emperor's Starships to those who are unfortunate to be in its wake. More dreaded are the ships of the Adeptus Astartes, surely crewed by the most elite of the Imperium's warriors. Finally, when the entire fleet is present and accounted for, they begin their advance towards the Tau Sept World of Sho'Ran, a world very near the Imperium-Tau Borders and one that has turned its back on the Emperor for more than three generations. Under the directive of Inquisitor Lord Alexander, an Imperial taskforce of consisting of both the Imperial Navy and Imperial Guard as well as specialists and auxiliaries such as the Adeptus Astartes, Adeptus Mechanicus and the Adeptus Sororitas have been sanctioned to capture and subjugate the former Imperial World known to the Imperials as Ganrik III.

While overall command of the Imperial Taskforce is led by Lord General Militant Gardemeister, the Inquisitor Lord has asked that a special few be requisitioned for his own needs during the campaign. For those involved, they are "invited" (An invitation you better accept) onto his ship, The Invincincible Reason. If you "accept", you will be greeted by a platoon of the Inquisitor Lord's own personal guard (But rumors say it is more like a personal army), the Jenovian Black Guards. They are clad in long coats and underneath it is Carapace Armor, and their face is hidden behind the red lens and visors of their helmets. They're also armed with Hellguns unlike regular guardsmen. One, who is seemingly the one in charge, approached and saluted you, "Welcome aboard. I am Lieutenant Haze and I will be escorting you to meet the Inquisitor Lord. If you be so kind as to follow me." He says this monotonously and further through his helmet's vox-speaker. He spun on his heel and marched towards wherever the Inquisitor Lord is on his dreaded ship. Through your little journey, you would be escorted by a squad of the Jenovian Black Guards. All eerily silent. However, the ship itself and its occupants are not so silent. You can hear the ship itself wailing and moaning as if the ship dreads it own very existence. You would have a sense of uneasiness as if your very soul shivers just for being on the ship. On occasion, you can hear the screams of actual human beings. Some of them include "DEAR SWEET EMPEROR! HAVE MERCY! HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL!", "THE EYES SEE ALL! THE EYES SEE ALL!" (Or does he mean "I") and "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Finally, you've come to a set of ornate wooden doors and Lieutenant Haze pushed them both open to reveal a lavishly and decorated dining hall with a long and massive table in the middle set up just in time for dinner. The table and chairs seem to be big enough to accommodate the size and weight of a Space Marine. Again, through his vox-speaker, "Take a sit. The Inquisitor Lord will be with you shortly." Lieutenant Haze takes his position at the door on the other side of the dining hall while the other Black Guards took their place around the other entrance. If you took your seat, a servitor would approached you, "What would you like to drink?" The Inquisitor Lord seem to have a wide range of beverages including alcohols. Once that is done, you look to each other and the question begs: What does the Inquisitor Lord want with you specifically?

OOC: So introduce your character and you are allowed to bring your command retinue if you want.

Tau

Just outside the planetary capital of Sho'Ran, Medisa, the resident Ethereal had taken up residence on a hill overlooking the capital as well as the two lakes that the capital lies in between. Even though the capital is located on the equator, the climate is quite cool and temperate. Ethereal Or'da has summoned a few of the Shas'Os to be taken under his direct wing during the coming invasion. If you approached the forested hill, you will be stopped by a Honor Guard who asked you to leave whatever weapons you have on your persons behind before you can descent up the 200-step stairs to the Ethereal's residence. If you've done so, you may climbed up the stairs and the Honor Guard's Shas'El will say, "Watch your step." As you climbed up, you will see drones patrolling the hill as well as Honor Guards standing guard on every so-many steps. If you look and listen more closely, you will also notice Battlesuits hidden behind the denser trees and foliage scanning for any sign of trouble or react to any threat that comes within range.

Once you reached the top, a drone would have approached you and scanned you. It beeped positively before backing off to its original position. You will see two more Honor Guards at the entrance of the residence, they open the sliding door for you. "The Ethereal will be with you shortly. Take a sit at the table." You entered through a door and it is a simple room with simple round table in the middle. With the door and windows open, it is quite chilly. You sat at the table and wondered what does the Ethereal want with you.

OOC: Same deal for the Tau. Intro!

Online Roleplaying / Army-Base RPG [Feeler Thread]
« on: April 01, 2013, 07:07:26 AM »
If anyone cared to remember and notice those army-base RPGs Aun, myself and a couple of others did a long time ago, I want to revive it.

Basically, you guys play a commander of sizable army e.g. regiment for Imperial Guards and company for Space Marines. Preferably, I like the campaign to be limited to two sides e.g. Imperium and Chaos or Tau and Chaos. I'll be limiting certain factions like I would prefer if there are 1 Space Marine company for every 1 Imperial Guard regiment for example. I haven't decided yet. However, if everyone agrees to play one faction then a full Space Marine Strike Force would be alright.

What I would like to know is the theme and fluff of your army i.e. specialties, history, drawbacks, a certain hatred for certain enemies, etc.

You may have notice that I have excluded some armies like Eldar and their dark cousins. Preferably, I want to use factions that has "standing" armies and armies that will stand and fight but I could make allowances for 1 or 2 player (Depending on the number of participants) to play those armies.

As the title says, I don't think there's a concrete rule saying that you need to choose a Lore before knowing your opponent or can't change Lores in-between games for different opponents. So what say you, 2S?

So, Aun and I are thinking of doing a WHFB campaign in the Border Princess. We would be using Hordes of the Things which is a Fantasy Fast Play Rule Set. Basically, each player is limited to 12 element each representing a certain unit e.g. Blades (Heavy Infantry), Knights (Heavily Armored Horsemen), Beasts (e.g. Wolves), Behemoths (e.g. Ogres and Giants), etc. Combat is simplified to the element modifiers plus a D6 roll-off between the players. Anyway, it has a campaign rules that it has shall be modified a little bit but overall, we want this to be a RPG of sorts with each PC controlling their own state in the Border Princes. Anyone interested?
