The Contests Board should be me and Thantos as mods, too

Campaign Discussion / Re: A 2S Campaign?

Regarding people who collect multiple armies - you should pick a side to join, but that shouldn't necessarily mean you can't earn points by playing with the other army, or e.g. writing articles for races on the other side. Maybe you'd earn less points for doing this though? I guess for articles, you're essentially stopping someone on the other side writing about the same thing, so essentially 'stealing' points. Possibly a viable tactic...

Part 2 of our rebooted Competition Calendar! Check out the thread here for more information on current and upcoming contests!

Whether they lead in the front lines with sword held high and bloodlust in their eyes, or sit back in the command tent and pore over strategic maps, at the core of every army lies a great leader. This contest is open to any single HQ model - the lone character, without any retinue they might have.

Dates:
  • Entries can be submitted via a PM to Thantos Masked Thespian from July 1st until August 22nd.
  • Voting will take place between August 23rd and August 30th.
  • Winners will be announced on the 31st of August.

Prizes:
1st Place - 10pts
2nd Place - 5pts
3rd Place - 2pts

(The top 3 all receive official 2S winners seals as well).

The winner of this contest will also be able to lay their grubby little mitts on a fantastic shiny set of Custom Second Sphere Dice:

Rules:
  • The unit must be a legal HQ choice in a current edition 40k Codex;
    • Transport options, such as Rhinos or Mycetic Spores, may not be included;
    • Up to three pictures of your entry may be submitted;
    • Forgeworld models and Monstrous Creatures are accepted;
    • A caption or title of up to 10 words may be included as part of your entry;
    • Depending on response, entries may be divided by a panel of impartial judges into Master and Novice tiers for the purposes of voting;
    • The models may not have been entered in a previous contest;
    • The models must be fully painted;
    • Photos of your entry may not exceed 800x600 pixels.

Past Contests / Troops Contest [RULES]
« on: June 24, 2012, 12:06:05 AM »
Contests have been on hold for a couple of months, but we're back, and best of all, it's with a forum favourite - the Troops contest. Forming the core of the Force Organisation Chart, Troops make up the bulk of any army, whether it's a squad of Marines or a swarm of gaunts. We know you have them - everyone has them - so now's your chance to show them off.

As an additional bonus, to make up for the fact that we've been away for so long, all entrants get an automatic karma point. So what are you waiting for?!

This contest is open to a single Troops unit.

Dates:
  • Entries can be submitted via a PM to Thantos Masked Thespian from June24th till July 22nd.
  • Voting will take place between July 23rd and July 30th.
  • Winners will be announced on the 31st of July.

Prizes:
1st Place - 10pts
2nd Place - 5pts
3rd Place - 2pts

(The top 3 all receive official 2S winners seals as well).

Rules:
  • The unit must be a legal Troops choice in a current edition 40k Codex;
    • Transport options, such as Rhinos or Mycetic Spores, may not be included;
    • Units that only become Troops when certain other units in the army are taken (such as Ork Nobz in an Ork army including an Ork Warboss) are excluded from this and may not be entered;
  • Up to three pictures of your entry may be submitted;
  • Forgeworld models and Monstrous Creatures are accepted;
  • A caption or title of up to 10 words may be included as part of your entry;
  • Depending on response, entries may be divided by a panel of impartial judges into Master and Novice tiers for the purposes of voting;
  • The models may not have been entered in a previous contest;
  • The models must be fully painted;
  • Photos of your entry may not exceed 800x600 pixels.

BBCode in custom titles!
Which theme(s) still have this feature lacking?

I'm on the forum default.

Also I'm still in favour of a restore to back-up from a few months ago before all the threads from the last year got spread across the forum...this would be really beneficial to everyone...
It would be possible (in theory) to revert back around 5 months if FT still have the backup. More recent topics could be restored across.

However, it would likely have problems in itself in that it would involve a day or two of downtime (for some reason restoring SQL files brings the server to a crawl) and might not even work. :-\

As an idea, maybe it would be possible to restore an old copy of the messages and topics table. Then, once that was up, I could mirror all of the recent posts/topics over to that table and delete our old table. Would take a week or few of uploading the old database I would think but the downtime would be minimal. It sounds good in theory but I've no idea if it would actually work. :P

I guess up to you on this one. I think downtime would be a small price to pay to get everything working again, but at the same time we don't want to break things even more!
