House Rules / Re: Wolf Brigade [IG Unit]

"I say as it stands 10 points for what you have now. 12 points if you go with true heavy bolter stats."

+2 points for +12" range, +2 Strength and -2 AP? Seriously? And they can take 10 of them? Are we just going for the most broken unit it is possible to make?

The stubber as listed here is fine as it is. It works nicely as a light machine gun tan is man portable, but it need to be stabilised to fire. It all works.

A regular stubber is strength 4 ap 6 at 36" range. Not saying use a heavy bolter stats.

12 points for +1 str, -1 ap, + 12".
At 12 points its equal to tau. Also unlike Tau if this unit moves they sna fire.
Wrong!!

None of the "Stub" weapons listed in the Rulebook have any AP (They're all AP-). There is also no "Rifle" stub gun, only the two Shotgun variaties (Guard & Astartes) and the Pistol.

I personally don't think a renamed Heavy Bolter is good as a Standard Weapon. Not even Marine Devastators and Chaos Havocs have that, and pay at least their base cost again to take them.

This is sort of why I suggested the OLD Hot-shot Lasgun stats. Essentially just a Lasgun with AP5. It could even remain Heavy 3 with that sort of statline.

Looking at the statline for a Heavy Stubber, and a Heavy Bolter, the "Stubber" seems to be just a HB with less strenght, or force behind it, but the same armour penetration power.

"Stub Guns" by the rulebook are essentially Laspistols, same with Autopistols.

As these guys are essentially Guardsmen, i find it hard to believe they can carry Heavy Bolters on each man.

I'd be comfortable with the Stubber being four shots at Str4, but no ap. Possibly Assault rather than Heavy? Just my thoughts.

Looks cool so far. Though I wonder why you didn't go with ye olde Hot-shot lasgun (The one thats AP5).

I don't think Heavy 3 is really justifyable. I'm pretty Sure Space Marine bolters by fluff would be Heavy 10 :P (Though I'm sure someone will correct me on that XD)

What kind of Special Rules are you considering?

With Respirators like that, maybe they could be immune to grenades like GK Pysk-out, or Tau Photon.

I feel it could do with more to differ it from both the Storm Trooper unit, and Vets. (Stubber already mentioned)

Update already :P

Decided there was a lot of lumpy GS on a couple guys, so I took  a hobby knife to them:

For the most part, they look a lot closer to how I want them, though closer to the base, the wire does get uncovered. Hopefully, when I find more time, I'll be able to include more detail.

In the mean time, I started another model, and its a lot larger than the previous lot:

Yep, thats my first attempt at a Spider Armature. I foresee the spiders giving me the most trouble :P The two front Claws are raised up on purpose, and it should hopefully becoe clear why when I get some GS on to the wire.

Critism and Suggestions would be most appreciated ^_^

So, I figured that even if it doesn't go anywhere, that maybe I should keep a record/blog/plogg going of the models I'm making from scratch. I could use it as blog material, but I don't think I have anything of real substance yet. :P

So far I've started four models:
- Salamander
- Fire Goblin
- Arachnid Knight
- Human

Here are the initial "Armatures" for the models (left-right; Salamander, human, Fire Goblin, AK):

I've managed to put some time into them, giving them some more bulk. (left-right; Salamander, Fire Goblin, Kinght, Human)

I'm mostly using these as practice for model making in general. Its slow, to tell the truth :P

Critism and Suggestions would be most appreciated ^_^

Official Contests / Re: Heavy Infantry Contest 2013 [rules]

XV25's were already exceptable :P

And yeah, I might as well keep to the FOC of 40k for these, with other games suitabley ported into the framework. I think its works best, as everybody is already familiar with the format.

If I get enough unique deadline extension requests, I will consider extending the deadline by seven (7) days. By my guess, this should be enough time.

Well, I still only have one entrant :P

I think you should do the terrain. Simply becase terrain can be rather confusing. 40k version 3 and 4 are great for vassal while 5 and 6 presents problems due to true line of sight.
Do you mean the "Observer" set-ups terrain? OR that players agree before the game starts what the characteristics of each piece of terrain is?

Will this be all the Members wishing to participate?

If so, then maybe some should/could start some practice games with RC?

I can make up a couple bland army lists using Old Tau, New CSM, Black Templar and Imperial Guard, if people want to practice against me. Just make sure to send me a note with dates and times you'll be able to game.

I'll do a quick tally of numbers, and make a short list of who is facing who in the first round, and we can take it from there ^_^

One thig I'm surprised no one has mentioned is any sort or "Prize" for the Winner. Curently, I was just thinking of maybe a Custom Award Seal for the winner, and I could try and coerce the Moderation team to gift Karma for everyone that participated :)

These might be useful to you.

I think I've seen a few clips of Jin-Roh. From what I remember, aren't the soldiers as large as Space Marines?

Heres a link to a Space Wolf blog. I'm sure it has some interesting point about combating Tau.

Hobby / Model Sculpting Tutorials

Anybody have any links to good Sculpting tutorials?

I have four armatures that need bulking up, and I don't want to screw them up.

I'm interested, though I have a question: For the 3250 game (and potential 4k,) is Apocalypse allowed? It's designed for games of 3k+. I don't expect it to, just felt like asking...
I think I'll leave that up to the players. Some people may not have the rules for Apoc, so would just use the Double FOC with Standard 40k rules.

In terms of teaching Vassal, thats most likely going to be the biggest problem. I've played a few games myself with it, and once you get the idea of how things work, it becomes much more friendly. It also does require players to near constantly comunicate, and is why I decided to make an Observer mandatory, for both keeping the rules in check and, if its me, to act as a guide on how to actually play Vassal 40k.

I'm counting five people with intewrest, which is so awesome ;D

Oops, should've known I'd forget something.

1st Round is 750pts, and it goes up by 500pts per round, so by round 6, Everybody will have 3250pts to play with, and if we go to a Tie-breaker, I'm feeling like it should be 4000pts to make it trully epic ;)

I'll go add it into the OP.
