Ok, so I want to convert one of these:

Any thoughts on what I might need? Any advice on how to go about making this look right? Particularly the hovering aspect of it. I was thinking of modifying the underside of the torso to accept a flight stand that had been cut down a bit to it wasn't too high in the air.

Any easily obtainable part that could be used for the spine and the energy claws perhaps?

Looks like a lot of plasta card would make your life easier. I think hobby lobby might have spikes for you to work with.
