Compliance in the 41st Millenium

Hey guys, so I had an interesting theory.
So an Imperial Crusade fleet (or  battle fleet) heads out in to an area of the galaxy that hasn't been traveled before (or at least isn't covered all that much (For example the Ghoul Stars)) and they come upon a planet or system that is populated by Humans. These humans had never heard about the Imperium of Man as they are only just beginning interstellar travel.

What is the most likely outcome? Would the Imperium go through a compliance process and attempt to bring them into the fold, or do we reckon they would destroy them?
Thanks!

It would depend on the reaction of the lost humans and what their belief system is like. If they are inadvertantly worshipping chaos [in another guise] they would be destroyed.

If they simply refused there would be negotiation etc. If they attacked, there would be war.

The fleet would in most cases send envoys, diplomats, priests to try and persaude them to rejoin the fold, only if that fails or the response is instantly hostile would there be war against them.

This kind of thing is covered every now and again in a lot of GW's short stories.
