Title: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Nexus Arena [F2P][MOBA][Indie]
Post by: Narric on February 04, 2016, 12:45:08 PM
Due to its Indie status on Steam, I'm putting this in the Non-GW Board.

Stumbled upon this the other day and tried to play it. Currently doesn't work on my computer annoyingly :(

Its a MOBA that seems to allow you to play as a number of core unit types from multiple factions, and you fight for survival in a Camorragh arena.
Aside from the obvious fact that these captives all still have their powerful wargear and haven't chosen to break themselves out, it seems like a pretty decent concept. There seems to be Melee Specialists, Support characters and Range Specialists, and probably other character archetypes aswell. Its not clear however if its plays as a point and click like League of Legends, of if its a Top-down shooter like Hatred and similar.

Curious to hear other peoples opinions on this.

Interesting. I'll have to try this out, I've never played a MOBA before.

Ok, so I gave it a go. First thing I noticed was that my laptop could barely play it. My FPS was awful.

Secondly, it's a top down view of your character, WASD to move. Right click is your primary ability, Q and E are your other two abilities. As far as I can see, that's basically it in terms of gameplay. I only played one game before the shocking frame rate forced me to give up, but it seemed like all you could really do was run around using your small moveset when enemies were near. Maybe I missed out on the subtleties by not continuing to play, but I couldn't see any semblance of tactics. Just run and gun.

Good points? Well, the arena was quite pretty and the Dark Eldar commentator was a nice touch (she reminded me a lot of the announcer from TF2). To be honest though, I'd say wait a few months for more stuff to be added and maybe a little more optimisation to be done.

What character where you playing as? I'm personally curious about the Tau.

Tried again, and got the same crash response :( Might need to message the developers and see what they say.

Were there respawns? Did you have the chance to buy in-game upgardes? Is it team deathmatch, or free-for-all?

I was the tau fire warrior. My primary ability was to fire my pulse rifle, while my secondaries were some kind of grenade and... honestly I'm not sure what the last one was. I think it may have been a speed boost, but with the lag I couldn't really tell.

There were respawns (about 10 seconds waiting time) and I'm not sure about the upgrades. I didn't see anything but the UI wasn't the clearest so I may have missed it. And I believe there are three different game modes; I can't recall what the others were, but the one I was playing was essentially a Kill Confirmed thing. Kill an enemy, pick up the soul shard they drop and take it to the centre of the map.
