Tempest Six Two

Some people might remember this from an old log I had ages ago, however as my FLGS is participating in 'The Big Game III' worldwide Apocalypse game next month (16th) I thought I'd pull my finger out and and get it at least structurally completed and a quick grey undercoat...

To this end I've now fairly much completed the top of the Titan's structure, with the shoulders, weapon mounting blocks and coolling towers (almost) done. I've also started to mock up the lower leg shielding which really bulks it out a lot. Head, turbolasers and volcano cannon and are in various stages of the build but i'm really happy with how much I've gotten done recently.

30" tall, 10 kilos and looking good!

The gun mounts slip in and out, and are held in place tight and flush- a flat block on the inner roof takes the weight of the inserted block.

I'll update as it comes along! Hope you all like!

I remember following this log waiting for it to be completed! glad you are working on it again. also, it looks better than a titan. but that is just me. next, you need to make a thunderhawk. :D

keep up the great work Tempest. i am looking forward to seeing this one completed.

also, will there be pics when you field it against someone?

Funny you should mention that Osiris- I already have plans drawn up for a thunderhawk ;) There really isnt any limitation on what Imperial type vehicles you can build with wood, seeing how boxy they are!! The only drama I can see with a THawk is the weight and building a decent enough flying stand, although I've been working out how to build the whole thing around a 2ft x 5 inch squaree piece of lightweight wood, for strength... anyhow, I digress.

From what I can tell my Warlord is going up against a Xenos/Heretic combination force of a minimum of 25,000 pts at this stage, although the store has the theoretical capacity for enough people to maybe cover up to 50,000pts per side. So, target rich environment :)

Will be loads of pics of the battle, and to be honest I'm keen to see where pics of it pop up on the net once the game's finished! I know the Apocalypse40k blog is heavily covering this event, and even mentioned that we here in Canberra Australia are partaking :)

Lower leg shields are on, giving him way more bulk and aesthetically balancing him out more. Didnt go for a huge angled flare-out on the side pieces, but they are still angled somewhat. Just have to fill the screw holes with wood filler and sand them back. All nice and solid :)

Back of the legs. Just gotta sort some large pistons and smaller ones for the ankle itself.

Got to say that its looking utterly awesome. Cant wait to see it finished.

Out of curiosity how much will this end up costing once you have all the parts? compared to say buying a much smaller Titan from forgeworld.

You wouldn't happen to live near Kansas City, would you? I've been looking for a good Apocalypse game. :)

Veq- thanks mate, everyone thats seen it/pics so far thinks it looks pretty phat :)  The cost in $AU, at a glance, would be up around

$100 in MDF sheets- I use 3mm, 6mm, 10mm and 16mm...
$50 in screws and bolts (im only buy really good stuff),
$20 in really good quality PVA glue (im halfway through my second 1L bottle).
$30 in plastic water piping/fittings.
$40 in hacksaw blades (I go through lots. There's been like 500+ cuts so far...)
$50 in random other miscellaneous bits and bobs.

I believe I have everything I need to finish it off. Maybe add another $20 in acrylic artists paint once done. So, in total, it owes me around $290, although I believe this is a bit over- more likely around $250. However, all in all it'll be a 500-odd hour build... thats the real expense.

Waaaghpower- sorry mate, I'm in Canberra, Australia!

So around £170. Thats pretty good considering what a FW Titan costs, as you say though its the time thats the killer and having the skill to do it. Doing all the cuts with a hacksaw? thats even more impressive.

Doh, my bad, that should read jigsaw. Hacksaw would never be as neat!!

I'll get some photos up if the head really soon, the main portion is built and to be honest I never want to do one ever again in plastic- well, using cut up poly pipe at least. What a massive pain. I'm making sure the head is a detachable piece so I can take my time and build a really super nice version for later on.

I've been thinking that if I can get it all completed and crazy detailed and painted in time I'll take it to the Oz games day....

Update- head is basically assembled, just needs some cleanup, detail and enclosing around the lower half. Its built from a 90 degree poly pipe that's been cut and sectioned heaps, then narrowed and held in this shape with cable ties and some hidden screws. The cut sections of two small plastic rice containers glued to it serve as  the lower half of the face and the side round 'ear' sections. The 'mouth' and jaw is made from the upper and lower centre chassis pieces of a Leman Russ tank, modified to angle up at the back. This has been the worst thing to build so far, next time/ next head I build will be wood, PVC poly pipe sucks so much! Still, I'm happy with how it looks- its not a reproduction of the original Lucius pattern head, but i wasnt really after that anyways...

It looks really primitive back here.

For some perspective, the Warlord astride my 6x4 modular urban streets. Pretty massive!! Note- turbolasers are now on!!

The sides of the cooling towers are now glued on, and I'm going to glue in some small 'lips' on the insides. The top of the towers will be removable to allow me to store my Apocalypse 'Big Gun Dice', and other Titan-specific stuff in there as well. Also, I like making storage spaces lol.

#10
it is impressive. though i think much larger than regular titans, is it an exterminatus class (sorry...made up my own class of Titan)? :D or are you trying to discourage Manta use?

hoping to see this painted and completed and in your army soon. century works too...modern medicine and all. possibilities are endless in this regard!

Osiris- It's a slightly larger (10%) replica of a Lucius-pattern Warlord Battle Titan, taken from the mini in Epic. A bit more than twice the height of a Warhound, and still plenty bigger than a Reaver.

Oh, and no pics or batrep yet- 16 march!!

Some pics of the Big Game III Apoc battle on the 16th. Was interesting seeing the look on people's faces when I rolled up with this, most things that were uttered were sadly not repeatable due to forum rules :P

Unfortunately I had to some issues back at home to help out with, so I had to leave my Titan and BA/DA forces for my mate Alan to command (this also explains my lack of pics). Sadly, our opponents had loaded up on every conceivable OTT mega hammer uber unit they could find and we got smashed by Daemons and Nids respectively (in my area of the table). However, the Warlord did crap on a lot of fancy units- one shot vapourised 9 bloodcrushers, I took out a swarm of Carnifexes with a fussilade of gatling cannon fire and I even got to reach out 240" away and ruin a Seer Council's day. Suck on it Xenos!

Oh look. The tables are only 4 ft wide like a regular battle..... :( Wasnt impressed. Was told this was 'how the US guys have always run it... all i could find on the net was 6ft wide setups at minimum. So yeah. Carapace weapons were only viable for opponents still in their deployment line.

A shot down the table looking at deployment.  Lighting is terrible in this store... compared to the really nicely lit pics from the US locations this is kinda embarrassing...

Belial and an Interrogator Chaplain with a ten-strong mixed loadout Deathwing Squad... new codex rocks. They held off a super-greater daemon from hitting the Titan for a few rounds, but the DAemon player couldn't fail an invulnerable somehow and they were whittled down...

My little 'uns swarm forward with the Titan looming overhead.

Awesome model and awesome pics. Having it on the table with a FW Warhound Titan just shows how immense that model is.

Can you show the model next to a tape measure or some other reliable size reference? I know an earlier post called it 30 inches, but from the pictures it looks much bigger than that. Is it really only 30"?

Regardless of size, it is one amazing construction.
