On that note, are there any ship weapons?

Mass Driver turrets peppered across the top and bottom of hull. Automated but require activation, but manual control can be assumed if needed, or if the autotracking goes down. Each turret has two barrels which fire alternately, equating to roughly two shots per second. They will overheat if forced to sustain fire.

The turrets aren't designed for combat, only defense against slow moving debris. The ship however does have a significant amount of maneuverability for its size.

Also, I'm guessing the ship will have more crew once the testing phase ends. It does sound big for such a small team.

No known. For the BU, almost all scientific research was funneled into this project. While the populace under the BU haven't had many issues beyond GRW raids and skirmishes, publically available technology hasn't advanced in pace with the Hammond's development.

It would likely become a forerunner ship, traveling to each new potential star system ahead of colony ships. More being built over time. The main limitation for the FTL drive being a compound that is very hard to synthesis in earth-like gravity (57% on Earth, and has a 39% yeild in Luna-like gravity). Thankfully a suitably sized chunk was found in the asteroid belt of the solar system, along with a number of compounds harvested for the ships hull.

And last question. Gravity?

Pick any method of gravity generation that has minimal side affects and doesn't require the ship spinning on an axis.
They have the technology but there are far too many ways in sci-fi to just pick one

Short answer is gravity plating. Just hope they don't overload.

I'm guessing the kitchen/dining room are all part of the meeting room section? I'm drawing comparisons with Serenity here.

Between the two crew quarters. The Bridge and Meeting room will have basic water dispensers, the latter having heatplates for pre-prepared meals. The ship was designed to have a long service, and need minimal retrofitting for its future post-mission.

Just a note, but the FTL drive room is limited access to the Specialist, Engineer, Commander, and Security.
Engineering is limited access to the Engineer, Commander, and Security. Can be made open access from inside and by security override.
Individual crew compartments are accessible only by the assigned crewman, while the Sec-Off can override with Commanders' approval.
Medical is open access, though most equipment and chemicals will be secured for the Doctors' discretion.
Bridge, Meeting Room and Astrometrics is open access.

Sorry It took a while. Coursework deadlines are creeping up on me.

As a note, Jonathan wanted the crew to gather personal items, but the alert meant they didn't have time for that.

The bridge is fairly spacious, but the launch chairs are essentially bucket seats in a recessed section of the floor. The Commanders seat is t the front and has access to all the same telemetry data as the pilot, as well as access to the defense turrets if needed.

Next post will be in a few days and will include the launch and the FTL jump, so heads up for that.

I'm sorry but maybe I'm missing something from that last post, but did the GRW just use a giant skull-faced doomsday satellite to blow up the moon? That's what it looks like you wrote but I'm just trying to be sure haha.

Yep. They've been biding their time, collecting similar resources as the BU, however they're simple minded wanting to just take over the world and impose their philosophy and will.

What they don't have is the FTL tech, mainly because they were focusing on their doomsday weapon. It would take them at least a few years to develop it themselves now, mainly because their over the top declaration of war is going to destroy much of the blueprints and scientific knowhow to do it. That and without the moon, Earth's orbit, weather, and potentially many other things are going to go to hell in a hand basket.

Oh, and keep in mind there was a sizable human population on the moon.

So... How badly was the moon blown up? Large fragments that could coalesce back into a roughly moon sized object (still killing everyone on the moon, but hopefully not completely wrecking the earth)? Or fragments small enough that the earth will eventually get a ring, like saturn (practically guaranteeing the end of civilisation)?

Also, at the risk of sounding suicidal, how catastrophic would it be if we pointed our ship at the GRW and activated the FTL drive? Or possibly ramming their doomsday weapon, or reconfiguring our warp field to fire our mass driver shots at lightspeed? Or any other technobabble method of spectacularly contributing to the war?

The moon has been blasted into some pretty large chunks. However, roughly a quarter of its solid mass, mainly from the point of impact, has been turned to dust ranging from football sizes chunks to about the size of Ireland. It may reform over time, but for now the more pressing issue is the debris falling to earth which call become a serious issue to sustained life on the planet.

The GRW vessel is at least eight times the size of the Hammond. It would be like a Piranha ramming a Land Raider. There are also defence weapons that would probably turn the ship into swiss cheese before you even got close enough to see in through any windows. Then there is the fact they could charge the weapon and fire it directly at you, which is their current plan.

The Hammond can maneuver an Asteroid field if needed, but it cannot dogfight or perform metal twisting turns and course corrections, and momentum is a thing that exists, so the crew would be thrown around inside.

Activating the FTL drive while flying straight at the GRW Vessel is also a really bad idea. The FTL Drive tunnels through and bends space/time. Think of it as somewhere in between the main engine of the Event Horizon (in movie of same name) and a Stargate (without the physical permenant gate part). To a point, you'd drag the GRW vessel with you, which would disrupt the field keeping the Hammond safe, and effectively blow you both up.

I'm not certain what I'm supposed to be doing here. I guess Noah should get to the engine room? But... Does he need to, like, turn on the FTL with a big red button or something? Do I need to make a Tech-use Test to coax out a machine spirit?
