Title: Domain/Server not found
Post by: LinnScarlett on December 24, 2012, 12:55:11 PM
The past few days I've had a few times that SecondSphere.org 'refused' to load for me, saying that the adress I tried to reach was not found and potentially offline. When it happened I checked my internet and other sites, but they all worked fine. MSN stayed online, YouTube didn't glitch/hiccup, and I could reach other sites just fine. Then, after a few minutes, I could reach SecondSphere again. I have no idea what it could be, but I figured I might as well let you guys know. It's happened a few times now, even after I cleaned out the browser history and so on. :)

I've had this happen to me too.

Anyone else have this kind of weirdness?

Best,

It just literally tells me 'Google Chrome was unable to reach SecondSphere.org', but it can find everything else. Sometimes when I am *on* the forum, it also suddenly takes a long time to load/refresh a page, and then kicks me out. Same message. :(

Next time one of you sees this message could you copy and paste the error message? (and which browser you've got the error in) :)

Is it just 'unable to reach'? If so this sounds like a busy server...

Yea, it didn't give me any actual error code or anything, or I would have pasted that already. But I'll take a screen grab if/when I get it again. I thought it was busy server or server overload too, that's what it felt like.

Wasn't this forum supposed to suffer from lack of activity though? Hehe :P

We have a few sites running on the server. The actual posting activity isn't causing slowness - the problem is probably in the number of page views between the two 2S sites (main forums and archive) as they might slow things down. It's also possible we have some bad code causing speed issues.

Hm, strange. Well, I'll take a screen grab when it happens again. I am using Google Chrome, by the way. :)

I always Firefox when browsing this forum, and the same thing happened to me.  It was the standard server time out message that you receive whenever a web page takes too long to load because of a busy server.  Everything seems to be working okay at the moment though.

Yea, it's the time-out. Here's the pic:

It says:

"The webpage is not available.
The webpage on X is possibly temporarily offline or permanently moved to a new adress.
Error 103 (net: ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error."

It happens to me a few times a day also. the message I get is:

"The connection has timed out
The server at secondsphere.org is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I'm using Firefox, version 17.0.1

I receive an identical message, and my version of Firefox is also 17.0.1.

It's also worth pointing out that occasionally the index page can take a very long time to load as well, so it does suggest there are periods where the server has slow downs, even if it doesn't time out completely.

Mhm, it sometimes also boots me from the forum, when I am already on there, so it's not just restricted to trying to get onto the main page either.
