Thunderwolf Lord Gear

So, after some time, I'm very slowly drifting back towards the hobby. After reading the new Space Wolves codex, I'm... Not exactly wowed, but it's not bad. Losing Saga of the Bear really sucks, but everything else seems reasonable enough. (And to be fair, the new +1 Wound for Thunderwolf-mounted guys helps counteract the loss of EW.)

Anyhoo, my old-codex Thunderwolf Lord just isn't cutting the mustard anymore. I used to take him with Saga of the Bear, Runic Armor, a Thunder Hammer, a Stormshield, and obviously a Thunderwolf. Only 3 Wounds, but 3 Wounds that could really take a hit, was immune to Instant Death, and dealt S10 AP2 Concussive attacks.

With the new book, though, this seems like a less than ideal setup. The Armor of Russ is looking pretty fantastic, but then the Storm Shield becomes less-than critical since it only boosts the invuln by 1. With 4 Wounds but no EW, the Wolf Lord's durability seems to have subtly changed from tanking a few ultra-strong hits to taking more weaker hits, and 2+4++ is nothing to scoff at.

The question is, what do I take instead? Wolf Claws seem like the obvious choice for when I want to strike first, (which I almost always will as long as I don't use the hammer,) but the AP3 replaces rending. I'd still get the bonus attack for 2 Specialist weapons and the re-rolls to wound, but it's a lot of points. Something cheaper loses the extra attack, but saves a lot of points. (Maybe a Power Maul? S7 AP4 is pretty darn good against lighter armor. Daemons would go down like flies.)

Any suggestions?

(Oh, and I'll take advice for other gear stuff too.)

EDIT:
Well, I'm a dummy. Wolf Lords get a Belt of Russ stock, so they already have a 4++. No relic armor needed.
