So, got a new version of that last list for the next game with my buddies. Slightly bigger than the last one, but I streamlined my list a bit anyway and now have eighty devilgaunts in mycetic spores and the Doom. The hormagants didn't seem that useful in the end so I ditched them.

1× Hive Tyrant (Leech Essence, Paroxysm, brainleech worms, implant attack, toxic miasma, wings)
1× Deathleaper
1× Doom of Malan'tai
4× Termagant brood (20 termagants [devourers], mycetic spore [cluster spines])

;D

Not gonna work. Half your army has to be on the board... and I count 1 hive tyrant right now.

Nah it's fine. Those all have to start in reserve, so they do, and whatever else is left that can be on the board has to be on the board.

In that case...
You're leaving your hive tyrant on the board by himself on turn one? I do not see this turning out well for him...
What happens if he gets shot down and dies on turn one? (What armies will you be playing against?) If he dies on turn one, it's an auto lose.

Tau, Space Wolves, or Eldar.

Tau has a crapload of anti air. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
As for the other two... no anti air inherent besides flyers and fortifications, but you're still taking a pretty big risk. How much terrain is usually there?

1. For reserves onlf half can do so rounded up by via reserve rule :facepalm001:

That is why I keep saying tervigons. If you drop 2 squads of gaunts you can easily take two tervigons.

2. If they go first and have the ranged weapons to do so they can kill your 4 wound tyrant before he has the chance to fly.

Okay, so how about this instead, then;

1× Hive Tyrant (Leech Essence, Paroxysm, brainleech worms, implant attack, toxic miasma, wings, regeneration)
1× Deathleaper
1× Doom of Malan'tai
2× Termagant brood (20 termagants [devourers], mycetic spore [cluster spines])
2× Trygon (adrenal glands, regeneration)

EDIT: I'm a little worried that this is too vulnerable to pulse spam or won't have the punch needed to gut his Fire Warrior teams before they can erase a unit or two and cripple my scoring ability.

Depending on the amount of terrain, keep your tervigons in the back on turn one so they can spawn plenty of gaunts. You'll have good back-lane control. On turn 2 you can start moving forward pretty quickly. In other words, if you can weather turn 1 you'll be fine.

Forgot that tervigons also have 6 wounds.

1× Hive Tyrant (Leech Essence, Paroxysm, brainleech worms, implant attack, toxic miasma, wings, regeneration)
1× Deathleaper
1× Doom of Malan'tai
2× Termagant brood (20 termagants [devourers], mycetic spore [cluster spines])
2× Tervigon (crushing claws, adrenal glands, toxin sacs, regeneration)

Another list for fighting Chaos. Thought I'd try something different. The tervigons were a great addition to the list. This one brings some more anti-armour into the mix and a few more scoring units, so hopefully it'll be a tad more flexible.

2× Tyranid Prime (bonesword, lash whip)
9× Warrior (boneswords)
9× Warrior (boneswords)
10× Termagant (devourer)
10× Termagant (devourer)
2× Tervigon (adrenal glands, toxin sacs, Catalyst)

Thoughts?

Tervigons are anti-armour. I use my tyrant and trigon to give cover saves to my tervigons. Typically my front row have endurance while my back row have cover saves. Invisibility is awesome.

I run a swarmlord since it's the only master 2 psyker the army has, mainly for the invisibility.
