Title: Low Forum Activity Discussion
Post by: Sorck on July 11, 2015, 11:59:55 PM
Seems very quiet around here... I wonder how we could get some more posting...

And bribing is not an option. :P

Well, I have an idea that I've been thinking of for a while now, but I can't run it until I've finished with at least one of the RPs I'm doing now.

At it's heart, I'd be running a 40k RP based on my Covert Operation rules. RP's tend to get the most activity nowadays, so that seems like a good bet. Ideally, it'd be nice if someone else could run a similar 40k RP at the same time (possibly in the same part of the galaxy, so they can be affect or reference each other in some way. A unified campaign setting for the forum). Then, to expand it to the entire forum...

Battle reports: anyone playing a game can post a battle report as part of the setting. Vassal games are greatly encouraged, since it doesn't require you to spend money. Previous edition games should be allowed to let ex players still take part without having to learn the newer rules.

Fluff and Stories: Spek for itself. Write something for the setting! people would be encouraged to include other people's characters. Incidentally, I would like to request that the setting take place in whatever part of the galaxy BigToof's character's are. I want Lorilune and the rest to be part of this, if possible.

Hobby: When I run my RP, I have every intention of converting models for the player characters and possibly any major villians. Diorama's would be great fun too. Pledge your army to the setting by doing an Army Showcase.

House Rules: My planned RP is already based on them. Also, house ruled characters,
armies, worlds. Custom scenarios could be fun too.

This wouldn't be a contest (although contests could be run as part of this) as contests require rules to be fair and those rules could restrict what people do. I was thinking this could be more open ended.

Maybe this should be split into it's own thread in the comments and suggestions board?

See I was just gonna suggest blackmail. Much cheaper than bribery and, with the right leverage, a much higher success rate. :P

Well, what we need is more new people to show up and want to stay here... unfortunately there's just so many other tabletop wargame forums out there.

I have no idea how to make things more peppy.

Personally I've just been waiting for the storm of 40k releases to slow down so that I can actually look them over and figure out the state of the game.
With the new Age of Sigmar taking up GW's time, this seems like a good point.
Also the cries of Eldar cheeze has gotten a bit quieter, so I'm actually looking forward to trying things out.
I think there's still interest, we just have to start putting things out again and try to actively take part once more.

Best,

For me, the biggest thing is that I'm just not doing wargaming here in Japan.  However, I'm planning on moving back to the UK next January, where all of my wargaming armies and supplies are.  I don't know just how much I'll get back into the hobby but I'd imagine that it'd be more than I'm doing now.  Hopefully I'll be more active around here too.

Honestly, I don't post because I feel I've got nothing worth contributing. I'd love to have something I could contribute, like batreps or questions or something, but it just hasn't worked out

I'm back after a bit of a hiatus.

I would like to contribute more, but the fact of the matter is that I don't play the game any more, so there isn't much that I can do other than to reply in topics where I can still offer something of value.  This is increasingly limited by the fact that I am getting further and further away from the game, so I don't know much about what is going on.

It's quieter than it used to be across multiple forums (we have less traffic at 40K Online too, which is my main forum, for example).  The fact of the matter is that a lot of experienced players do not play any more, owing to real lift commitments, so don't post on forums these days, while the majority of the younger generation prefers to use Facebook, Twitter, and blogs over forums.  As a result, it's very hard to attract a lot of activity.  Dakka appears to be the only exception to this, but the quality of posts over there is very poor in my opinion, so it's not a place to emulate.

My focus these days is Magic: The Gathering and X-Wing Miniatures. 40k has lost much allure, and while I might be posting some more stuff when the new Tau dex drops, I only really play when someone wants to test something.

MtG has been my thing as well :3 Though our related thread ios a little slow as well XD

I think the 2S page posts have potentially helped get the forum noticed. Surprisingly enough we had a new like on it the other day. The posts are also getting seen supposedly by more people that like the page.

I'm playing a fair bit of Blood Bowl again now BB2 is out, so I can try to drum up some content related to that... but GW have driven me out of Fantasy and 40K altogether.

I would suggest as it seems evident that most people arn't feeling GW at the moment why not try and expand the other areas? Batman, x-wing, MTG, Guildball and even boardgames all seem to be experiencing more attention atm than GW although second sphere to me has always been prodominatly GW, it did expand a little with the other games boards.

Just my 2 pence worth from a lurker.

I'd actually love to hear what you think of BB2.
It looks fun to play, but I'm not sure of it's quality...
