Title: Zealot Miniatures - Blacksmith (The New Renaissance)
Post by: Thantos on July 03, 2013, 02:08:14 PM
Im after some new ideas for weapon sprues on the store and suddenly have some free time creeping into my life now! :D Put two and two together and we have a 28mm scale blacksmith!

So where do you guys come in? OK, if you have ideas of handheld weapons you want - swords, laser guns, axes, power maces, electro flails, rocket launchers etc etc - post here with ideas, description and a picture or two linked (or homebrew drawing if your handy with the pencil). Ill pick the best few and make some conversion packs for your minis.

What do you get?

Asides from having your ideas made as resin accessories? You get a master cast resin set posted out to you and you get to name the weapons ;D

Why not some Fallout 3 or Mass Effect inspired weapons? :P

How about some Steam-punk weapons?

I'm tempted to ask about the boltgun/pistol my Inquisitor carries.

Whilst I have your attention, I suggest you write something unique for "The Major" as she currently has the same info as "Mae-Anetta" :P

Yeah, a Fatman is essential. Borderlands/Borderlands 2 is also a wealth of ideas.

Remember a random conversation from... 6 months ago? I want those, they're perfect, I'll be ordering a bunch when they're in your store :P

Also; I'm not sure how easy this would be to do, or if you even still have the design, but your chainswords work perfect with a longer haft to make a chainglaive, so... just an idea.

I have a request that relates to a pre-existing product. 25mm, 40mm, and 25x70mm bike/cavalry bases, based in this base: http://www.zealotminiatures.co.uk/#!__zealot-store/mech-industrial-base-80mm, or maybe sthose bases, but with Kadesh theme?

I ask, because for those "Kadesh Marines" need bases, and I don't want a base that looks like sand an rocks :P

Here's a fairly niche idea - 2S logo shoulder pads which happen to be the size of either IG carapace armour pads or SM shoulder pads.

Or, indeed, shoulder shields that happen to fit on a Fire Warrior.

Yeah if you made the 2S Sept icon for Firewarriors I would definitely order a set.

"Blacksmith."

How much would it set me back to get a custom job done of forty warhammer heads that would be almost identical to the warhammer head design that Games Workshop did for their Sigmarite models, with the important difference that  I'd like the symbol of the twin-tailed comet traveling towards the big end which is supposed to hit the enemy on the head.

I've got a few models that need to be inducted into my warband.   ;D

Sounds good, FW IG or SM compatible? If there is some interest in it then i can certainly sort that ;D Perhaps add to a 2S shop section if that gets underway

Shoulder shield? Like GK termis mini heraldry shield?

For you, Paradox, £10 to design them and £10 to print a master sprue. Makes sense for a twin TAILED comet to have the tail on the back i guess :P

You're talking shop jargon to me, Thantos. How much is it going to cost? Is that £20 for the 40 hammers? Or do I have to go and do something with the master sprue afterwards to get the number of hammers I need?

Sorry mate, in plain english ;) - £20 and the end result is ill sort 40 hammerhead casts for you (+2 quid or something postage) Let me know the diameter of the current hammers shaft and ill make a hole in them that you can just clip off the old hammer head and plug the haft into these heads.

Or the shoulder pads that you find on every space marine sprue of course. (Such as these (http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/baal-predator-pilot-shoulder-pads-p-5834.html).

I can't seem to find the IG pads on the bits store above so they might not be so popular. :P

Some more previews for you sirs. Some folks have asked fro a heroquest style fallen rock - 1 inch footprint.
Just have to sharpen a few details add a few cracks to that.

Not for want of trying  ::) Im just waiting for a load of additive cure clear resin to come in then they will be sorted. Half the moulds are made and just waiting a pouring.

Now i just have to figure out what i can use 1 liter of clear resin on which requires a 1 part mould... clear bases? meh
Title: Re: Zealot Blacksmith
Post by: The Man They Call Jayne on November 08, 2013, 06:31:17 PM
I'd make clear bases to go with the suits. Also some detail peices could look good if they were clear. The head of a thunder hammer for example., like it could glow from inside, or a layer of a Storm Shield. Or even a n energy shield for a Crisis Suit/Riptide. The resin playing the part of part of the energy field itself. If you could make it look fluid enough to be an expanding barrier of energy that could be mounted behind the actual shield bit it would look awesome.

I suspect a bit tricky to accomplish though.

P&P is calculated once you input your address ands country, and can actually be calculated for individual models. depending on the size of the model it seems to be between £2-£6 per model/kit for within the UK. Though I haven't looked at the price for any of the bigger models and kits.

A couple of my guys been bitching about only imperial lines as I usually know stuff (apparently) they came to me. I know there was a kickstarter but very expensive. But if you could do nids with January release and Eldar as everybody got the cheese should do well. Depending on cost I would get one or two.

Big updates on the store. Like all good tyranids, im assimilating new genetic material... or starting to act as a stockist for some small and relatively unknown miniature brands.

Im hand picking the range so it hits the kind of market zealot is already aiming at, and hopefully the new minis will be something new that people wont have seen before, like the Void Navigator above ;D

Hey Thantos, did you know that "Kadesh" is a place in the Syrian Arab Republic? :P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadesh

Not sure what you want to make of it, but the connection to Egypt and the Hittite might be useful material for later models/fluff.

Or you could get in trouble with a foreign nation :P

Or more likely you'll get in trouble with another Wargames company due to their being a Historical Army set based on it, I think. Just kinda going by images on Google and info on Wikipedia :P

Nice Naser, spread the word ;)

Will be masses more releases filtering into the shop today and next week.
Now we are relatively well established with our own brand and miniatures, I thought it was TIME!
Time for all those cool conversion parts ive seen over the years produced by obscure mini makers, that the average hobbyist didnt know existed; im in talks with a lot of them to stock their stuff all in one place on Zealot. Sold at a discount from the RRP of course  ;D

Hey, Thantos.

If you're still doing custom weapon ideas then I've got one for you that I hope you might be interested in.

Essentially, you'd be looking at a weapon around the size, bulk, and shape of a GW Space Marine/Sisters of Battle/Chaos Space Marine Heavy Bolter, and held in a similar fashion.  It would have a meltagun-esque barrel with a chainblade mounted immediately underneath it.  The idea is that the weapon uses a fusion of melta technology and the same technology that Chainfists use to envelop cutting blades in power fields; it's a heavy duty cutting tool for use in ship boarding actions to slice through bulkheads and armoured walls.

I've attached a rough mock-up of how I envision it, thanks to the wonderful world of MS Paint...   :shifty:

Also, how's work coming on those chain-glaives?  I notice that they're not actually in the store, yet.

I made this with a zealot chainsword (they're awesomely useful) and a khorne berserker chainaxe. (Sorry for the poor lighting)

Looks like a "standard" one could be carried, and easily scaled up for a Walker variant.

I wonder what a M2 Assault Droid would look likewith such a weapon system *nudge nudge*

Quote from: Thantos on January 07, 2014, 04:59:32 PMI like the cutter idea MT, would it be carried our mounted on a walker of vehicle?

It's supposed to be handheld, in two hands, by Space Marines, like a big chainsaw.  It's supposed to represent specialised equipment, specifically for boarding actions, rather than the all-purpose meltagun.  The idea is that it uses a melta-beam to superheat the bulkhead (or other target), then use the field-protected cutting blade to slice through it.  I see no reason why they couldn't be mounted on vehicles or scaled up, though.

I'm actually going to be converting some up, out of CSM Heavy Bolters, meltaguns, and chainswords, for my Space Wolves army (based around boarding actions; in game terms they'll be meltaguns).

I have that model and... the pictures don't do it justice. It has amazing details and is really easy to paint up with a simple drybrushing or line highlighting to make look absolutely nuts. Unfortunately his pose made him look perfect for a statue of a priest, so I painted him as an objective marker.

Oo so youd want 4 legged? The legs are very flexible so that part of things would be a breeze, just kitbashing some sort of body which would take some work. Id imagine the 4 legged varient would look a bit like an AT-AT :P

Ha thanks Chris - i think there is a Narric specialty diorama contest coming up shortly ;) With BONUS MEGA PRIZES!

Title: Re: Zealot Blacksmith

Cheaper than a Rhino, indeed the same size as a Rhino, and twice as airborne! :P Im using one for my jump pack marines army, makes sense for the rhino to be jump pack mounted too!

If you would like more than we have currently stocked, let me know and i will get on it :)

Ah that certainly sounds good. It would make a nice fast transport for my Blood Angels, or for my IG Company Command Squad (or maybe just for Yarrick ;D)

How many pieces is it in?

Ignore that... I found a picture of the pieces. What sort of size flight base might it need? Is it light enough to mount on a 2mm or so acrylic stem? (similar to a GW skimmer flight base) Or do I need something a bit more industrial like an MDF base and 5mm acrylic stem?

Would you be interested in doing zone mortalis walls and doors? Also; I hadn't seen the fantasy buildings before now and they're already out of stock, any thoughts on when there'd be more? Somehow over the last month your store became overwhelming with choices :P
Title: Re: Zealot Blacksmith

Probably going to need a larger flying stand, Valkyrie style or something. Or sturdy metal rod / mdf painted black.

The zone mortalis is like a big space hulk scenery set? Would be cool to do something like that, will likely get onto it when i get designing again proper!

Thanks Deraj, should have a big restock of everything over this weekend :D Been getting more mechanicus style parts in lately, so need to get the word out among the cog-head communities now :P

Something like 3",6", and 12" sections would be awesome to be able to do up 2'x2' sections or even 4'x4'.

Hmm could cast big parts like that with marble additive maybe... would make it have a marble effect and weight like 50% stone. Also greater impact resistance if you drop a part.

Heh should be getting some more mechanicus style stuff stocked in a bit too. Servitor underling chaps below. May be good for marine serfs too actually.

Yea, was thinking of sculpting it in epoxy (apart from the helmet) when i get the time. Likely this summer when uni over :D
Duno if should go for a female rider with big biker boots, light sci fi armour and helmet. Or scifi male trooper based on WWII bikers.

At the moment, the riderless bike is available from a client's store who i sold the rights to produce it to. 15 quid though from them.

Pilot girl i sold unfortunately, so cant use any parts of that :/

I know a couple places myself.

Mad Robot Miniatures (http://madrobotminiatures.com/) do a large range of IG suitable conversion parts.
Puppets War (http://puppetswar.com/) also have a pretty cool and Sci-fi-y unit of Humans.

I've also seen a few conversion guides floating around that'll allow you to use normal Lasguns to make cool weapons.

Ahhh, PuppetsWar! I remember stumbling across their Dragonfly and couldn't find it again. I definitely want one as a Valkyrie counts-as in the future. (The ultimate destiny of my Gue'vesa is to become a Guard force of their own when the new 'dex drops.)

Those rotor Jump Packs are excellent, and once I find the right armour/weapons, I'll be buying and building these straight away. Thanks, Narric!

I painted this one last night

I need to figure out the windows a little better.

I'm not sure where it's going, it could be for my personal mordheim/fantasy table, but I may put it on a base to bring it to my LGS. (That's the only problem I could see having with it, it seems like it'd be fragile for transportation, but that's easily fixed.)

I'm having some trouble deciding what to do with the windows, because... windows look black to me. I think I'm going to want a few more of these and some of the other buildings you have at some point just because I liked this one so much.

Also; trust me, that wasn't quick. All in all I think it took me about 7 hours, 5 hours of that were from 10pm to 3am, I was just so excited about it that I powered through.

You know, I dunno if it's just cos of the screenshots, but put a dark colour scheme on those guys and you'd have some sexy Dark Eldar.

I know I'm a little late to the party but would it be possible to get some female heads with hair? Been looking all over for them but I just can't seem to find them!

@ Jonagon - Thanks man, come a long way since jetbikes and powerfists :D

@ Jayne - Though that was about postage times at first, before i got the reference lol xD

@SILK - Female human heads with hair? Just civilian, or military?

Ahh with the old 1960s bob haircut :P ? Could have a go at something like that, already have stuff from TUB like fleur de lys icons, iron halos and light power axes for the old nuns.
I have a female face sculpt i did before, but i think it needs to be stronger (facial bones etc) to work well as a female mini.

Any chance of some Spartan (think 300) style helmets which might fit the helmet plumes you've already done and conviently look right on a Space Marines body?

I'm thinking of how to make some sternguard vets now i've got the vanguard sorted...

Any word on these fella?

Sweet! Now one more favour: Can you seen me a green stuff version? I want to use these in official GW stuff (not armies on parade or stuff like that, just tournies) and if someone in a red shirt asks I wanna whip out an unpaited version :P

Or if you give me any old excuse to use, thats cool too.

Anyone else asks I'll point them in your direction :D

If that is crisis compatible I just might be interested.

Of course I might also be interested in a smaller version of the Riptide shield for a crisis suit.

I have to say that I'm really impressed by those Fantasy buildings from earlier in the topic.  It's a shame that I don't play any more, and that I don't have any spare cash, otherwise I'd snap a whole load of those up without hesitation.

They'd be good for that as well, based on my limited knowledge of that game.  Now you've made me want to read the rules for Mordheim :D!

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this topic for further developments.

Have I mentioned Mad Robot Miniatures to you Thantos?
http://www.madrobotminiatures.com/zencart/

Plenty of bits to add to the store, along with some 54mm and 15mm scale pieces. The full squads are a little trickier, as they include options at purchase, rather then in the kit. Unless you bought bulk of the Special weapons to include in the kit anyway :P

Specialist games are good fun :P I dabble with =][= which is great too if you can set up a narrative battle with the scenery.

Epic is my specialist game.  I was playing that when it used to be GW's third core game.  I've never really branched out into the others, but I have plans to.  Speaking of Epic, there's a terrain thought for you, possibly ;).

Man that Jetbike looks good...

Do you do anything for female Guardswomen? I'm trying to get some variety into my squads.

Can do some sci fi female troopers if you like. What bits are you after? Heads, bodies?

Heads mainly, but bodies and arms/legs would also be appreciated. My main problem is that I don't just want a Cadian With Boobs, mainly looking for a more athletic, lithe figure based on the Cadian aesthetic, (a bit demanding, I know.)

So more lightly armoured? Interesting idea, may have a go rough something out tonight if i get the spare hours :D

That'd be cool, and I'd like to see the results. I was in a discussion on Bell of Lost Souls about how there's no way to really add female Guardswomen without them being skinny girls with oversized boobs in vests. I'm personally looking for something more like a female soldier of the modern day - breasts aren't very noticeable under flak armour, they're still wearing full combat gear with helmets, but they're recognisably female due to body shape and their faces.

I think variety would be a good way to go with them, there's a lot of call for a more reserved line of female Guard minis. :)

We'll stop start of Femmegryns, though. :P
