Title: Tagging
Post by: Chris on April 04, 2014, 09:43:00 PM
Hey guys
Not sure if this has been bought up before, but is there anyway we can tag individual members 'into' a thread or discussion, i.e. we want to talk directly to someone or bring the discussion to someone's attention?

Not using standard SMF software, no.  There might be a mod which allows you to do it, as there are Facebook and Twitter mods which have been made for SMF.

A simple solution is to include [FAO (member)] in the name of a thread. FAO stands for "For the Attention Of" in this case.

However, it may be easier to simply PM a person if it specific to them.

Tagging wuld probably be better employed as a way of tagging whole threads to a single subject, such as including the Space Marine Tag on any discussion about Marines, or "Tutorial" for anything that shows a method of doing something. These tags would be more important, as a person could click a tag, and view any and all threads with that specific tag, same a a person searching a Blog.

Yep, if you just want to classify a thread by type, commonly used written tags are [updated/edited], [tactica], [tutorial], [race name], [beginner/intermediate/advanced], and [battle report].

For individual members, I agree with Narric that PMs are a better option.

It is possible for a [@=Narric] tag or something along those lines that would then PM/alert the person tagged. It would be a bit of a pain to implement though.

Maybe you'd prefer a button which allowed you to 'share' a thread/post by PM?
