Title: Dark (mostly) Footdar
Post by: BigToof on December 24, 2012, 08:10:42 PM
Hi All,
I have for your perusal, a 1500 pt. Dark (mostly) Footdar list.

It's been doing pretty well.  In fact, I've recently demolished a poor Tyranid list that didn't have a counter to my shenanigans.

Wanted to share it with you all, as I plan to eventually try the big fish (i.e. GK, Crons, etc) pretty soon, but am worried things will work out disastrously.

Dark (mostly) Footdar (1500pts): 40 Infantry, 4 Vehicles, 2 MCs, 1 Fort; 13 VP
-Haemonculus Ancient w/ Venom Blade, Liquifier Gun, Huskblade
-Warriorsx20 w/SC, Blaster
-Wychesx5, HGs in Venom w/SCx2
-Wychesx5, HGs in Venom w/SCx2
-Talos w/Liquifier Gun, TL-Splinter Cannon
-Void Raven Bomber
-Void Raven Bomber
-Farseer w/RoWarding, Stones, Guide, Mind War
-Fire Dragonsx5 w/Exarch, Crackshot
-Guardian Jetbikesx3
-Wraithlord w/EML
Ageis Defense Line w/Quadgun

So... tactics are as such:
Haemonculus Ancient with Huskblade: Hefty points cost, but handy for keeping away assaults and challenges that would tie up my Warrior blob.
Farseer: Buffs Warrior blob.  Going 2xDivination.  Had perfect timing once and that pretty much did in the Tyranids.
Warriors: Shooty, lots of guys.  Mobile and cheap-ish.
Wyches in Venoms: My Anti-Tank, suicidal, but cheap and scoring.
Void Ravens: A bit overkill, but anti-flyer and anti-tank.  A bit pricey, but more reliable than other options, as Ravagers just aren't cutting it at times for me.
Talos: Bats clean-up for the blob, cutting in and helping in assault and in shooting.
Fire Dragons on ADL: IGNORES COVER.  Deals with a lot of shenanigans and also anti-flyer.  Plus, meltaguns.
Wraithlord: Thought it was going to suck, but actually really scary, as it has S10 out of the box with T8 to make people poop themselves.  Backed up with the Talos, it's a hard backfield to pierce.
GJB: Uh... they score?  Oh, and they can move 48" to contest.

My problems with the list:
I don't have a lot of anti-tank.  Anti-infantry up the wazoo, but if I run into a full armored fist list, I might be in trouble.  Not that my meta is heavy tread-head, but you never know.
Also, my anti-tank is also my anti-flyer, and that's asking a lot from the Void Ravens.

So, what do you all think?  Is it ready?  Should I take the plunge?  Or am I missing something?

Best,
-BT

I would say that you have a lack of long-ranged anti-tank/anti-air. I personally would prefer that you take away the Wraithlord for some War Walkers as they are far more durable and they can throw in more firepower.

The War Walkers are an interesting idea.
Always wanted to field them.

Another choice would be putting a Haywire Blaster on the Talos and/or Brightlance on the Wraithlord.

I know I'd love to put down some Dark Lances someplace, but not sure where, as a single Ravager out on its lonesome isn't going to last that long...

Best,

With the jet bikes I would deep strike them if you can. Daemons have my deep strike sence messed up, and I think everything can ds lol.

If they can deep strike yu can ds in and do the 24" turbo boost to contest or claim and objective with few models being able to stop you.

I don't really like seeing an ancient geared up. The archon is a much better threat and you can take a simple monk and do the same thing.

Wraithlord can add anti vehicle range or it's sword can help smash things. The sword helps make up for it's poor amount of attacks. Although really for it's cost it is fine with no upgrades, but wraith sght is an issue.

War Walkers.more durable than a toughness 8 wraith lord sitting in area terrain with fortune, or behind the Talos, or behind wraith guard, although the walkers with guide is very devestating. My problem with walkers they scream kill me please.  Am fragile and can wipe out almost any squad out there.

I think it is odd that you have like 5 lance weapons in that army. Your elite warriors can have 4 blasters in a venom, etc. I think more lances would be nice.

The way that list is I think it would do fine against a lot. I think you will have problems against a lot of high toughness models, although you have roughly 60 poison shots you can dish out.

I think a huge problem will be that if you are facing some decent firepower, you could well lose most of those warriors and both of the venoms in a turn quite easily which means youve lost pretty much all your anti infantry in a turn which will be a big worry if your going second.

I like Fire Dragons on the Quadgun but I like to take Tank Hunters on the Exarch too. It makes that Quadgun a serious threat against even AV13 and it kills a lot of flyers the second they enter the table.

Now that I look at it, I would say that Guide is unnecessary, and so is Mind War. Just slap a Doom on the Farseer and call it good. It is far cheaper and also it will combo well with the Dark Eldar elements of the army. Never underestimate a reroll to wound on poison and also lances.
