Hi guys perhaps many of you are doing your own crusade/horus heresy armies and such but after searching everywhere i had no choice and to be quite unique i have started a Crusade erra fleet. this is going to allow me to field both chaos and Imperial navy vessels soo if anyone is going a heresy campainge just remmember I got the fleet ;). SORRY ABOUT THE PICTURE QUALITY I AM USING A VERY OLD PHONE

in this picture you can see the three firestorm frigates and four Crusiers (dont know the class i just put them together) two of the Crusiers need painting

i guess i should speak about plans the next purchase is going to be my first chaos ship a couple of chaos crusiers and after that some chaos raiders. the paint scheme is Leadbelcher (or boltgun metal for you classics) for the hull, silver for the prowel (front of the ship) I belive shining gold with burnished gold for the edges of the porwl and along the dorsel (top part) and Dwarf Brones (or what ever its called now) for the Guns.

soo guys what do you think?  ;D

Just an FYI: Almost all of the Imperial ships would be off limits in an "accurate" Heresy era fleet. In fact, a lot of the CHAOS ships are off limits too!

For reference, here is a list of ships that we have some chronological information for:

Allowed ships:
Imperial:
Emperor Class Battleships - these pre-date the Imperium.
Ramiles Star Forts - Developed during (for?) the Great Crusade.
Dauntless Class Light Cruiser - "Light scouting cruisers like the Dauntless have always been a feature of Imperial fleets"

Chaos:
Desolator Class Battleship - Existed at founding of Imperium.
Iconoclast Destroyer - "The Iconoclast is similar in design to a variety of small escort ships turned out by almost every shipyard."

Barred Ships:
Imperial:
Apocalypse Class Battleship - Created after the Great Crusade era to counter Chaos raids.
Retribution Class Battleship - Developed as a successor to the Apocalypse (though BFG core rules suggest it could have existed in GC era...)
Mars Class Battlecruiser - Developed to replace the Styx.
Overlord Class Battlecruiser - Based on the Acheron.
Lunar Class Cruiser - Developed to replace the Murder.
Dictator Class Cruiser - Built around Lunar Class Hull; could not have existed pre M38.
Tyrant Class Cruiser - Developed M38.
Firestorm Frigates - referred to as a "recent" innovation.
Chaos:
Despoiler Class Battleship - First built M36.
Repulsive Class Grand Cruiser - First built M34.
Acheron Class Heavy Cruiser - Imperium only ever built one, and it turned Traitor...
Murder Class Cruiser - First built M33.
Idolator Class Raider - Never built by the Imperium.
Infidel Class Raider - Designed M40.

The "Maybe" ships:
Imperial:
Dominator Class Cruiser - No dates given.
Gothic Class Cruiser - No dates given (note: the first ever starships GW ever mentioned in detail were called Gothic class, so I would always allow Heresy fleets to use these ships!).
Sword Class Escort - No dates given.
Cobra Class Destroyer - No dates given.
Chaos:
Styx Class Heavy Cruiser - Were active in M32 / M33, but no confirmation they existed in Great Crusade era.
Hades Class Heavy Cruiser - No dates given.
Devastation Class Cruiser - No dates given (but at least one was in use by the Imperium in M37).
Carnage Class Cruiser - No dates given.
Slaughter Class Cruiser - No dates given; Imperium lost ability to produce ship in early M34.

So, as you can see, if you want to be historically accurate you have quite a challenge on your hands! However, by carefully selecting your ships, you should be able to produce a fleet that has the character of a Heresy Era fleet whilst still being actually functional on the table!

My advice on that front would be to use the following amalgamated ship list:

Battleships:
Emperor Class, Desolator Class.

Heavy Cruisers:
Styx, Hades

Cruisers:
Carnage, Slaughter, Dominator, Gothic.

Escorts:
Swords, Iconoclasts.
I wrote a novel - Dreamscape: The Wanderer.. Available in paperback and pdf.

Thanks Wargamer for the advice. but you are missing a few ships i may be able to use even tho they are quite old and when i say old i am meaning, recently i found out that BFG is actually a reboot of a much older warhammer 40k space tabletop wargaming called space fleet and i belive i can use these ships

ships like the:

-emperor capital ship
-gothic battleship
-Dominator Battleship
-Tyrant Battleship
-Ironclad Battleship

and much more ships listed here http://www.solegends.com/citsfleet/imperial.htm however some of these ships are hard to find also some of them look quite silly.

what ive found out after i started this is that many of the ships in the horus heresy series is that they dont describe the ship they mearly say the particular class it is.
