So, after reading Jeremy Vetocks lovely little article in this months White Dwarf about his fave personal character from his years of gaming [his was a Goblin Boss on Wolf called Groff Dogbreff] and recounting his famous victories and failures it got me thinking about my own and wondering about other peoples.

Mine is a classic Ork Nob with Powerclaw, Slugga, Pirate Hat and Cigar [Boss Pole, Bionik Body...the cigar has stimms in!] called Gnarkill Necksnappa. In my first 5-6 years of 40K this guy never EVER died, this must have been at the very least 50 games and to never die despite only having 10 boys and truck to keep him safe was something special. He almost always took out enemy characters/monsters. My early games were mostly against Space Wolves, Black Templars, Nid, Chaos and Dark Eldar. I lost count of the amount of Logan Grimnars, Rangar Blackmanes, Emperors Champions, Nurgle Lords, Hive Tyrants and Archons he killed.

It got to the point with him that people would actually try and take him out despite how the game was going.

I think what makes him stand out for me even more though is how he first died. His truck blown away by Fire Warrior Pulse Rifles, he and a lone boy stagger into combat with them next turn and are both killed in combat, by Fire Warriors!.

I dont have a camera anymore but this is a picture of the model [not my one];

So how about your famous characters? let us know!, include a pic if you can.

I could talk about my IG commander, nicknamed the Scourge of Gigolos (I'm as confused as you...) after his single handed butchering of a Sanguinary guard squad in close combat.

I could talk about my twin ministorum priests who have over the years slain monters, dreadnights, tanks and champions, even wracking up an impressive five vehicle kills in a single game (including an ork deffdread).

I could talk about my master of ordnance, who I maintain is the best value model in the entire game.

But no. My greatest hero is the driver of one of my chimeras. He's been in every IG army I've ever had, and he's always been useful (even if only to absorb a bit of fire by exploding). He has the amusing habit of tank shocking anything if given a chance. His finest moment has to be when he found himself miles away from the rest of my army in a 10 way last man standing game. Nearby was an epic combat between to of my foes, with Ghazgull and some other orks facing some grey knight terminators and a dreadknight.

I had nothing better to do, so he tank shocked. After a short debate on how tank shocking a combat would work, both sides passed their leadership tests and Ghazgull and the Dreadknight both decided to death or glory. And failed. In a single movement phase the chimera had killed the greatest ork warlord in existence, and destroyed the dreadknight, which was only in the game because the GW staff wanted to show it off before the official release a few days later.

The game then stopped for about five minutes so that everyone could stop laughing and/or re-enact what the scene must have been like. I like to picture the two models grappling with everything they had, until suddenly the roar of the engine makes them both look sideways just in time to see the chimera before it hit. Meanwhile the rest of the combat just stares in shock.

Arguleon-veq

Awesome  ;D, maybe they werent grappling, maybe they were holding each other trying to find comfort in their last moments before their doom.  :P

I used to go tank shock crazy with my Falcons, I had a tournament game in which I lost my entire Bike Council [around 800 points] turn 1 and it looked like it was game over for me, only for a pair of Falcons to run most of a Guard army off the table. My opponent couldnt believe how I was using them and said hed never seen skimmers used like that but when your so easy to shake but so hard to down with those old Holo-Field rules, pretty much the only thing you could do with them was crash into things at high speed!

If any of my models perform above and beyond the call of duty in battle I decorate their base with a small piece of blu-tack as a medal, usually for things like being the last man standing in a squad and claiming a match-winning objective or some such thing.

But the one model who truly earned his was one of the six marker drones accompanying my Tau commander and his bodyguard. At that point I was in a game against Chaos Daemons and this was the one remaining marker drone in the squad, the squad was engaged in combat with a Daemon Prince, and who should remove that final wound?

That's right, a marker drone slew a Daemon Prince in close combat.

knightperson

Oh, lemme see. I once had a shield drone kill a terminator in close combat. We sort of envisioned it as a shield protected grand piano slamming into him!

My commander model, which I still use, earned the nickname "Commander Deathwish" in his first few battles in 4th edition. He was really the only model I had with the high strength / low AP weaponry that could take on things like carnifexes, but he had to be close to do it. I always botched the range and got him too close, where the monstrous creature would quickly squash him. More recently, that same model has earned some infamy for strapping on iridium armor, shield drones, and an onager gauntlet, and escorting a bunch of marker drones around the field while soaking up all the fire that's aimed at them. He once insta-killed a chaos champion of some kind with his onager.

Finally, I have a couple of amusing conversions in my daemon army. There's a horror-pink model of every other faction to represent The Changeling, but the game in my area was always so Space Marine heavy that he's usually played by the pink space marine. Then I have my Masque conversion. It's a daemonette where I green-stuffed a screaming yellow tailed coat and wide-brimmed hat, and painted the face green. Few enough people got it, though, so I had to write "Ssssssmokin!" on the base. (I hope SOMEBODY here gets it.)

It's a Jim Carrey reference from 1994.

Hmm, let's think? Oh yes, Penelope the Pathfinder! This happened way back in early 5th and things were looking pretty dismal in ways of markerlight support. A Tyranid Lictor had come to ruin my day but assaulting my Pathfinders and slaughtering all but one with no real hesitation. This one pathfinder, her name is Penelope, would in two turns have killed the Lictor. I have no idea why or how she killed him but that was one golden dice that she had and she punched him in the calamari while dodging its arsenal of stabby things so well that early this edition it was she who my Fireblade stand in when working around with the new dex, working her way to Shas'nel by her valiant efforts with a rail rifle. Penelope has sniped out the last wound on Marine Captains, Chaos Lords, Commissars and Warbosses abound but she will always be known for king-hitting a Lictor.

Arguleon-veq

Not one of mine but in a game today, a Chimera [specifically the Heavy Bolter on one] killed both of my Wraithknights! Thats some Heavy Bolter gunner!

The Man They Call Jayne

One of my Shas'la spent 3 turns sniping at advancing terminators taking down 1 with his pulse rifle and the last 2 in hand to hand. Tau'nee Star'k was rapidly promoted to Shas'ui after that in lieu of a Trial by Fire.

Vasily Romanov, Commander of my rag-tag Imperial Guard battalion finally took down a Dark Eldar Archon that had been beating me about the head severely.  In close combat.
Granted you know, my opponent had gotten unlucky and I had thrown EVERY speed bump in the way (including most of my army), but it was the most epic fight I can recall...

That, and having my Fab Four (a group of four rather obnoxious MegaNobz), take apart a Bloodthirster who assaulted into cover and whiffed horribly.  We like to say that he tripped and fell onto a bunch of power klawz.

Walrus Man

My most heroic miniature is (or was) my scratch built kroot shaper, Omata. Through a combination of luck and gumption I would often see this guy go toe to toe enemies who by rights should have wiped the floor with him, only to have him come out victorious, battered but unbowed. His crowning moment was when I charged him and his squad at a chaos sorcerer lord and his retinue. The kroot and marines fought each other to a standstill until only the chaos lord and the shaper remained. By some miracle he was able to kill the lord after several rounds of combat and win the day for me.
Sadly, Shaper Omata met his end facing a foe more deadly than any he could have imagined. He was knocked off his shelf by my cat and eaten by the vacuum. I don't have the heart to throw his parts away, and live on in the hope I can someday repair him.

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's galaxy's first bionic man kroot. Steve Austin Shaper Omata will be that man kroot. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster."

Sounds like the beginning of the Iron Beaks Chapter of Kroot Marines.

Not so much a single character, but when I ran Guard, I became convinced that the position of Plasma Gunner in my Command HQ was not for an honoured, trained marksman. It was in fact a trial-by-ordeal for not-quite-capital offences. Sadly the Emperor is not a forgiving god.

(Ok, my ability to roll 1's is almost a standing joke, but that was beyond ridiculous)

Had my first game in a while with my old skool eldar in a doubles 2k each match. A squadron of sentinels with plasma cannon order by his ally not to, shot at George the Avatar first 2 got hot and caused glancing hits. The third deviated onto a squad George was going to munch next turn with incubi and their speacial character who was on last wound killed them all. His ally was so horrified as he though drazi? Could take George he tried to quit. They conceeded the turn after primarily due to lack of troops lol. I reckon the sentinels made their points back.

I have a team of twenty Guard models equipped with Pulse Rifles and painted in Tau colours. They're handy because at first I played them as Kroot being cheaper and more pleasing to look at than Space Chickens.

However lately I've been using the first ten I painted as a Fire Warrior squad, who in my head have earned the trust and respect of the Cadre, and may bear Combat Armour and Pulse Rifles into battle.

I also have refitted Sentinels with High-Yield Missiles who function in the role of Broadsides in high-danger scenarios, and an accompaniment to my Commander who is the first Gue'vesa Crisis suit pilot in my Cadre, being equipped with two Autocannons for Counts-as Missile Pods.

Lastly I have a Commander in a Broadside suit with a shedload of conversions to make him look like a big, bulky Crisis suit. He's the veteran of Hive Fleet Gorgon, Shas'el Vorcah, now promoted to stand as a stalwart shield for the Cadre. I play him with all the survivability buffs, and this guy has withstood Demolisher Cannons! Shoulda seen my opponent's face when I rolled 3 4+s on his Shields, fantastic! He then lead the team to hammer the enemy armour to a wreck with their Missile Pods...
