Pre-heresy Ultramrines [1.5k]

This is mostly to get an idea what a "generic" army would look like Pre-Heresy. I use Ulramarines, because they're meant to be the most tactically flexible of them all, so a goo starting point when discussing Pre-heresy Army Lists.

This list uses Codex: Chaos Space Marines as its base, so costs will be diffferent from Codex: Space Marines.

Hrm, I guess the first thing I would have to ask is what is the basis for this being a generic pre-heresy army?  I see that you have quite a few power weapons in there but not really any specialist weapons besides flamers.  What are you going for really?  Is there some sort of theme behind all flamers and power weapons?  Don't mean to sound overly critical but I'm not sure what makes this stand out as 'Pre-Heresy' ATM...

Overall at 1500 points I'm not sure you'd be able to deal with anything above armor value of 12 with any real reliability.  Against Necrons this list will suffer horribly IMHO.  AV 13 everywhere is too tough for you to crack without assaulting and you don't have range.  You'll be good against hoards.. but other small unit armies will make you suffer I believe... but it's just my opinion.

Might I suggest a power fist in the assault company?  Even that might not be overly helpful though.. hrm.

Simply enough, I found a PDf I'd downloaded a while ago, about how to field a Pre-heresy Army using Codex: CSM. This list was an experimentation with the limitations. The Power Weapons and Flamers was just to give a little bit of extra kick. There is a bit of Anti-tank, with the Terminators all equipped with Power Fists, save the Sergeant. this was mostly to give a similar feel to the current Codex: SM Terminator Squad.

Back to the list in general, I was trying to go for a take-all-comers. In that sense I was trying to improve my List writing as well. In trying to make it "Generic" it allows people to take this list as a starting point and expand into specialisation.

This list is open to all critism, and any improvements are appreciated.

Interesting concept...

I am going to move this to the Enemies of the Imperium board because this uses the Chaos Space Marine codex. You should probably also make it clear what all of these 'renamed' wargear options are (ie: Legion Banner and Conversion Field).

It looks to be an alright list, though these days I question whether 'alright' can stand up to the crap most people seem to pull.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of most lists used these days. Everyone seems to think they have to win at all costs, rather then try and have fun.

What suggestions would you give to make it a stronger list, whilst not making it specialised? or is that a whole different topic to cover?
